Is a criegslist clone script illigal?

I understand that smal sites and communities get away with different clone scripts.

But if your communty get lots of members, will you then get sued for copying the script?

Hope someone can confirm or unconfirm this :)

Kind regards

If you have the domain criegslist and have a site that looks almost the same, good chance you will get sued.

Maurice - that is a typo I think  He  was talking about the Craigslist clone script on the Marketplace here.    I'm not a lawyer, I don't know the risks involved, but I do think it is a possibility.  I mentioned it more than a year ago on this thread:

They copied the entire Craigslist navigation structure and even use their name.  If you are going to use it, I would take some precautions.

I know its alot of clone scripts out there, and with few members i dont think the owners really care.

But if your site get popular you may have a problem. So i dont want to install moduls that i may have to delete if my site get the members i hope it would.

So if any developer read this, can you change the script so the functions are the same, but names and pictures within the script is not a direct copy? I really want a new ads/clasifield modul for my page.

Kind regards

I agree, no one will care if it is little, but if it becomes successful they just might.  If you use that, I would change as much of the appearance as possible so that it doesn't look like a copy, and I certainly wouldn't call it anything similar to "Craigslist".
