Hello! I recently got started on a project using Dolphin as engineer, and so far I have been impressed with how intuitive and organized Dolphin is.
My first roadblock is to try to create a login block that has an input box for user name and an input box for the password, a bit like Facebook. The currently Dolphin template only allows me to add buttons to the so called Main Logo area where my avatar is displayed with buttons for "Profile", "Account" and "Logout". What I need is to insert the join form into the web page
Please let me know what steps I can take to achieve this. Thanks!

Administration area > builder > page builder > select page you wish to edit.
You can search the market for free tools to do things like move the default blocks to different pages or add new php blocks to a page (http://www.boonex.com/m/Deanos_Tools_V1_6_Dolphin_7_0_Version)
Also you can
Administration area > settings > basic settings > bottom of page edit "splash" with html (thus allowing you to add a new header, add form elements, etc.) |
Thank you!
If I am to edit the source code of Dolphin, how can I realize these functions myself? I only dug around the source code for a day or two

You posted this in the Dolphin 7.2 forum, and Dolphin 7.2 has a Join/Login button at the top of every page.
What's wrong with that? One mouse click to pop up the login/join box really doesn't burn that many calories

I didn't notice this was a 7.2 question, my suggestions may not work... but it sounds like you are using 7.1.6.... |

Hi I am working with a group of people so it's sometimes not entirely up to me to decide what features to implement. Also I think marketing wise it's just a way to lower the psychological barrier for the new users

Oh shoot, sorry for the dumb mistake. I thought that I was using the latest version for some reason. Can you or another moderator move this topic to 7.1?

move this topic to 7.1?
Done. However, It probably won't be too much longer until 7.2 is out of beta, and spending a lot of time modifying 7.1.6 might not have much up side.

Can I not transfer the changes from 7.1.6 to 7.2? I would think that's a must have feature for a large social engine like Dolphin?

Sure you can... but 'transfer' is not quite the right word. More like 'do it all over again'... especially where customization of core files is concerned.

Darn...thanks for answering tho |
