Hello all. I am a newbie here and have recently installed Dolphin because a client is interested in it. Overall I really like the look and feel of the script. I have some questions which I hope to be able to answer.
First, let it be known, prior to making this post I have diligently searched everywhere for my answers. I used the search feature and plugged in many variables to try and find the answers. I went thru all 43 pages of the answers section for the script. Learned a few things there but did not find what I was looking for. And I searched thru the wiki. That said, if someone knows where the answers are I am looking for please point me in that direction.
My first question I suppose is both a question and a concern. I've run across a lot of negative publicity about this script especially with respect to lack of documentation (which I am noticing) and security issues. But I am willing to work around that if the answers can be found. I am willing to be one of the people that invests my time and energy in helping to make this better and to market it because I think that it is a great script compared to most others I have found. But then I might be naive since I don't have a ton of experience with it yet. Also, I might add, I am not a php expert but I am comfortable in modding php if I have the correct code to mod it with. I am primarily a marketer and small web host but I have built a profitable business from 1 customer to over 300 customers, one customer at a time and if I am excited about something I can contribute a bit towards its ability to have more customers so I would like to have confidence in this program.
So on to my first question - it is related to security. Short of the basics such as the normal server security one should have and register globals off I am seeking advice about what other types of things one might and should do in order to have as secure a script as possible and perhaps mitigate any issues and that is my question as well as what types of things we can do in order to try and be apprised of any critical events which might be a security breach.
My other question is in relation to the quick search function. My client wants to be able to modify this to search on features such as 'friend looking for friend", and so forth. How would a person go about making modifications to this script in order to accommodate this type of request? I found a couple of posts related to this but it didn't seem to clearly explain how to go about making this modification. Or if this has already been modded I would like to know where the mod can be found.
