3 or 4 column footer

Hi. I'm looking at implementing a better footer for the site, 3 or 4 column.

I've searched the forums and found this:

https://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Neat-three-column-footer.htm

which does "kinda" work, it gives the 3 column menu at the bottom but it also ruins the css of the template I'm using so it's not ideal.

I've searched the market and there are some solutions to this, but this is not something I wish to "yet buy another module" for. Apart from the money, continually buying mods makes it that much harder to upgrade when new D Pro releases are made.

Does anyone have a solution or recommendation to this?

Thanks.

I'm not a fan of those three/four column footers.

They look too 'bloggy template' for my liking and a lot of that info is too redundant to appear on every page.

I'm also not a great fan of them because they are more related to CMS systems than social systems. However, the menu system that comes out of the box with D Pro is just sub-standard in this day and age.

I have looked at various ones in the market and AntonLV comes the closest with his mobile friendly pull-out-from-left menu system, it's the nicest menu available for Dolphin but unfortunately it can't be used as a universal main menu system which looks the same in all browsers - no criticism there, just it's not designed as a main menu system but as a mobile menu.

Other JS related menus aren't 100% responsive and aren't "sticky" on the top when using mobile.

Abservetech have a nice menu in their latest template, which also isn't perfect ("more" menu they couldn't get rid of) but they won't add that menu to their older templates without custom work/fee. Going custom makes no sense, because on each upgrade you have to repay for additional custom work.

This honestly would have to be the biggest gripe I have with D pro, I love the platform but such a major set-back is the menu system, new users just get lost trying to find where things are and where to go. I get lost myself and I spend almost every day in it!

So to compensate? I'm looking for a bottom 3 or 4 column footer to replace the basic "bottom menu" that comes with D pro.

I don't see it as redundant at all, I see it as a stop-gap until something better comes along.

I hope someone has an idea here, as I tinkered with a responsive CSS3 one I tried to customise unfortunately it breaks some CSS on the main website so couldn't use it.

You could create an HTML block, in a full width column at the bottom.

There's also the new <BODY> injection you could use, in Basic Settings, if you must have it at the bottom.

Or you could just edit the template and put in your own code.

I add 'custom navigation extras' in blocks where I want them.

This honestly would have to be the biggest gripe I have with D pro, I love the platform but such a major set-back is the menu system, new users just get lost trying to find where things are and where to go. I get lost myself and I spend almost every day in it!

I'm not being funny, but if this is your biggest gripe with Dolphin?

Surprised

You can actually restructure your dolphin the way you like Wink, I don't know if this is something you are looking for please check this site, we do not post template for sale mostly custom to accommodate clients need and this site still in development in progress.

Hi Expertzkris. Yes that footer is exactly what I mean and what I'm  looking for (for now). You guys do some great things for Dolphin but I must say I'm against custom changes ie. changes just for me.

I would much prefer a module/vendor release for something that can be maintained.

Going the custom route, IMHO, is a recipe for disaster because as the site owner, on each release update you're stuck with the original developer who may or may not choose to update the custom changes if needed. In the worst case they could hold you to ransom or not do the job at all while you hunt around for someone who will. The dev could be too busy, not care, etc.

From the developers point of view, if they have a template or mod in the market they are more inclined to update it because they have many more clients that have purchased the mod.

I'm not desperate for anything, any of these types of things are just "nice to haves" or temporary workarounds until something better comes along.

The website does look great by the way and yes, it shows you can customise D Pro as you wish. Thanks for replying.

Hi Michel. Yes it is. I've tested and checked various social networking software and none of them are what they say they are "on the box" ie. they all have their issues.

For me, I remember when choosing Dolphin (over Oxwall at the time) I was most comfortable with Dolphin, it felt right. After a while I realised though that the menu system wasn't easy to work with and made little sense to me when navigating or trying to get myself around the site. The rest of the "problems" with the system I could deal with, patches, small changes here and there, but the menu system isn't that easy to fix. It really needs to be done properly from base.
