7.0.6 upgrade - language strangeness

Just completed 7.0.5 to 7.0.6 upgrade and some language strings updated via Admin -> Languages Settings were reset to original values, while other string changes were preserved.

Should mention I completed all manual language steps in the upgrade process:

  • Recompile language files for all modules from admin panel -> Tools -> Modules
  • Recompile system language file from admin panel -> Settings -> Languages Settings
  • Recompile Orca Forum language file from admin panel -> Modules -> Orca Forum -> Manage Forum

Have completed several upgrades in the past and haven't experienced this problem.

Any idea what might be going on?

I had the same when i upgraded from 7.0.3 to 7.0.4 .. i had to reinstall my site from a backup, which i had :-)

but after that i never recompiled language files after an upgrade. i rather take the risk to have an obscure word somewhere than to loose my dutch language translation

Noticed this text in the Upgrade Instructions from 7.0.5 to 7.0.6 (at the bottom):

NOTE: You can also update your custom language translations if you create the appropriate translated files for your custom language, BEFORE THE UPGRADE PROCESS, in upgrade/files/7.0.5-7.0.6/ and upgrade/files/7.0.5-7.0.6/modules/*/ directories. There are lang_en.php files by default in these directories. Create a translated copy of lang_en.php for your custom language. For example, if you have the Russian language installed you can add lang_ru.php files. Then all new language keys for your custom language will be added automatically.

Didn't think this applied to me, since I'm using the default language (English), but maybe it applies to changes to any strings?

If so, it is poorly worded, and should be placed AT THE TOP of the upgrade process, not at the bottom. Yell
