Account Sign-up Process

Hey Dolphinites - I need the sign-up process to require an email confirmation response from the user BEFORE they can navigate to ANY account management page.  Every setting I create within the Page Moderation panel does not limit the user's access completely.  I'm only able to limit access to pages within the membership levels.  Does this setup exist within 7.0.1?

Once a user submits their account information, they should see a message stating that they need to confirm their account via the email confirmation letter sent, before they can sign in and get access to their account.

Ideally, if the user could be redirected to a new page block (managed via the admin page builder), that would be more marketing friendly.

So is this a wish list deal or a module idea for one of you bright developers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers - Jethro

The moderation settings under administration, settings, moderation settings may provide some useful options. You may also want to look into AntonLV's Access Management System modifications, available here: http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/Access_Management_System_1_0_0 and here: http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/Access_Management_System_2_0_0.

Have fun.

Thanks Magnussoft, however, as I stated in my post, no setting combination will accomplish what I expect as a basic function of a membership site.  I have Anton's Page Access Control already.  His module does not address my issue.

I cannot believe no one else is trying to setup their site where users cannot access any account information until they confirm via email!  Anyone?

Well, although I do agree that the signup is a bit unorthodox there's also the other side of that to consider.

Since the account has to be confirmed "eventually" anyway, there shouldn't be any harm in giving signed up members who already provided their required personal information a "sneak peak" as to what they'll be able to do. I guess some people might consider this an enhancement as opposed to something negative?

But be that as it may, you can also click on the membership levels from your admin dashboard. Once you click on an available membership type it will open up to display tons of features that you can enable/disable right there, for guest, standard, promotional, and custom generated accounts. Maybe that's where you can find a better solution to your problem?

Thanks, and I think you're definitely correct about the positive side.  So, I've embraced this shortcoming by enhancing a the language file _EMAIL_CONF_SENT to include a clearer message about final activation of their account. Since the language field can accept html, I've include an image as well.

The bottom line is making sure we have the tools to tweak this site to meet the end user's needs, but also maintain control over the application.

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback and I have asked Anton to add this to the wish list of upcoming enhancements to Dolphin.
