Adding Pages

I'm trying to better grasp adding pages-

When I'm in the page builder, when I click Add Page, does it matter which page builder I have open at the moment.

Say I want to add a Profile-specific additional page for my members like- Profile Media or Media Profile whatever.

Would I simply need to have the Profile page builder open when I click the add page button and then go through the typical steps of adding a page?

Am I looking at this all wrong.

What I want to do is make a second or third profile page and use Deano's Block Tools- and move the many various media-related block over to that new page so as to clean up and better organize the appearance of Profiles. It's just too much clustered there on one page and looks crappy and unorganized when trying to arrange all that stuff on one page.

A page is a page. What section you have open does not matter. As the section itself is a page. That is used to determine what page you want to place blocks on. So no, it does not matter.

As for copying the blocks. You most likely will not accomplish exactly what you want. I hope you read the description of my mod before you purchased it. It specifically says this.

NOTE: Only blocks of type PHP, HTML and RSS can be copied. This makes up only about 10% of dolphins blocks. Please do not assume all of dolphins blocks can be copied with this tool.

It also states green block most likely can be copied, and red ones most likely cannot. Most likely meaning there is no guarantee that the copies will work.

On the profile page, only about half the blocks can be copied.

Just want to make sure you throughly understand this.

For $15 bucks Deano and an actual support forum for issues that may arise with it? - Heck man I figure I did pretty good. There doesn't seem to be a strong enough value place on new customers at this time here at Boonex. Certainly Mods are affordable and Most Devs are helpful but today's market demands the total package and there's much to be answered for at this time for me at least.

The ad was clearly stated and defined. Other than the fact that few seem to care about that tiny little itty bity tincy wincy UNEXPANDED courtesy checklist- and all the red "not specified" all over the market- I was aware of what I was getting and the price was right- ONLY because I've been around long enough to see that I would have support on this particular mod BY DEANO if I made a purchase.

Your all good man.

I got another plan for my profile page now so I'm good there as well.

But as for adding pages- Yes I needed clarity as to whether they were indeed generic or specific to the page you are in the page builder at the time of creation.

Thanks that's understood now. Thanks.

I guess my next question is:

If they aren't specific to the page one is on, how then does one attach pages that may be relational to others and get them to be dynamic across all members?

I hope dynamic is the term I'm looking for here. I mean that I want each page to be specific to each member, but also specific to any given module I guess, and have a menu button applicable in that lower menu bar specific to each member.

Does this make sense?

The Block Tool is by the way quite a helpful tool indeed

No actually sorry, but i do not understand.

A page in dolphin is just a empty space. It can be used for anything. Content within that page is dynamically generated.

For example. The profile page for instance. There is only ONE profile page. Each user does not have their own profile page. What makes the profile page unique to that user is the page blocks which are filled with information for the proper user when the page is being viewed.

For the profile.  When you view a profile your going to yoursite.com/profilename

That gets translated to yoursite.com/profile.php?ID=memberid via the .htaccess file. So basically that memberid that is passed to the page tells the page blocks in the page what data to display.

So to make a long story short, the blocks on the page do all the work. The page is just a blank canvas with a name. It has no other purpose than to hold page blocks.

Except for the more complex ones which actually have code, but those types of pages can't be created in the page builder. Those have to be created by hand, and are not easy to do. Many of the php files in the root of the site such as member.php, profile.php, browse.php, about_us.php, ect are the complex page types. Most of those exist in the page builder, but the ones you create in the page builder however i just simple blank slates that are processed by the viewpage.php script.

I am sure i have confused you even more. I most likley should not have mentioned the more complex page types as i am sure your not ready for that yet.

LOL- That's actually quite informative Deano. Very, Very well stated and quite understood.

By quite understood, I mean everything you said lays out a very nice picture that allows me to connect some dots that I didn't before realize were there.

Indeed that does reshape my concept on how pages work.

And you are quite right- Until I better understand PHP and also MySQL Database, I am not ready to touch those files.

But as for the content herein, I appreciate your feedback, for it is the information that leads to to finding the means for accomplishing my goals.

A new member can't always rely on purchasing mods, and they certainly shouldn't be kicked to the curb for wanting to learn. This is where the word UNITY comes to mind, and it is only a word if people are unwilling to open the doors to newcomers and share.

Your information here is what I call real sharing given the venue.

Thank You very much that helps tremendously Deano
