Adding advertisements to homepage

Hi,

I would like to add ads to the homepage at the top under the header, on the side and at the bottom footer. What do I need to do to place the code and where?

my guess is the easiest way is to add columns and HTML Blocks and paste the code in those.

Indeed. I use Text Blocks.
