Arvixe Notification

Hi can any 1 please help, according to Arvixe my hosting company I am sending out 4000 emails a day I only have about 600 members and I have not sent any emails out except 2 weeks ago and that was i. This is what thy said.

The account is sending out again bulk emails (about 4000 in one day). This is the last warning and we will have to suspend the account permanently if this incident recurs.

so is there a way to find out if D7 is sending out 4000 emails a day and if so how, and might it be bulk email thing

It sounds like your server or hosting account has been compromised. I would check the security of your passwords and change them if you haven't already.

If its sending out 4000 a day.. have you received any spam to the email account linked with the admin account?

I see you're new to Dolphin.

He's been around a while :)

Ask your hosting provider what the Emails look like.  I am sure they can do this for you.  That will give you some idea of where to start.

Hi guys this is the email thy sent me any idea on what this means? I don't lol

Hello,

The emails were indeed sent from your account. Here is a log entry:

2010-06-01 13:10:15 1OJXmx-0005vg-6f <= myemail U=****** P=local S=1135 T="=?UTF-8?B?aHR0cDovL2dheWN1bWNoYXQuY29tLyAtICBwb3NzaWJsZSBzZWN1cml0eSBhdHRhY2sh?="

2010-06-01 13:10:15 1OJXmx-0005vg-6f Completed

It should that the email sent sent from any php script inside /home/******/public_html and the sending email address was email@******.com. You need to check whether any installed software is sending these emails or the account has been exploited and any spammer is sending out emails. I see that the Dolphin cron is setup to run every five minutes and it might be the one sending emails. Did you receive any notification emails at ******@msn.com ?

Hello:

4,000 emails/day suppose an average of 2,78 e-mails sent every minute during the 1,440 minutes that a day has... in my opinion, that discards that those mails come from Dolphin, because the crontab tasks are, among other things, responsible of sending out the queued mails coming from Dolphing alerts/subscriptions/etc.

This crontab tasks fire every 5 minutes and the emails sendings are limited to 5 e-mails each time (at least for me, and I'm using the 'standar' Dolphin installation from Arvixe). That makes impossible to reach 4,000 e-mails/day.

I also do think you may have been compromised and/or any kind of script you are not aware of, is beeing used by third parties to send spam using your account.

Arvixe could look into this further to at least see what the subject/body of the Email is and even where it might be originating from.  Ask them.

Arvixe are real scums,

they kicked me out,

suspend my account with out a prior notice and

kept all money i had put in advance in the account.

They didnt let me move my site my way,

i had to find administrator and pay him to help me restore.

Stay away from arvixe,

the only reason people send customers to arvixe is that they supossed to get payed 70$ per head,

but even there arvixe are scums and they dont pay them :)

Hello,

Unfortunately, we deleted all the inactive emails from the mail queue as it got filled up (4K emails from you alone).

It could be your Dolphin cron which may have caused the mass emails.

Try disabling the notification in the Dolphin configuration.

so there is no way for me to find you?

Off topic a bit... but on one of our Dolphin sites, we send out ~550,000 emails a day... at the rate of 550/minute.  ;)

modmysite: well, my figures were based on what I thought it was the standard configuration as it comes "out of the box". Maybe it's only my own experience and, based on that, it was impossible to reach 4,000 emails/day :-?

You left me ashtonished with that figures. Can you tell me which site is that?? I would love to know what a dolphin based website is taking such a big traffic. In fact, I had doubts about its performance under heavy traffic circumstances.

Hi - sorry, can't give out the URL (NDA in place).... the site however, runs a highly (1000's of hours) modified 5.6.5

The same would be possible with later versions... but with modifications required.

As for 7.x, we will be looking into this more after 7.0.2 is final release - database optimization wise.
