Avatar everywhere?

Why are so many member photos being named Avatar?  I know they're not all uploading hte photos in the avatar section, so what can be the problem.  I see this on pretty much everyone's website.

Whenever the user uploads their photos in the "default" album created for them at signup (ex. Zarcon's Photos), it names them avatar. I know.. its pretty ridiculous.

I don't know about you, but the fact that by default, the option to upload an alternate copy of your avatar to your album, is pretty annoying. Just, like, my, commas.

Is there a fix for this?  i.e. a way to call it "Profile Pictures" instead of "avatar" - I agree that this is ridiculous.

Count me in as part of the group that things this code behavior is retarded.  It's a strange usability issue.
