Banner image compression? Why?

I never noticed until another member stood his ground with me that Boonex in it's infinite wisdom has decided it's necessary that images uploaded for the promo banners be compressed? Whose brain fart of an idea was that?

The one thing I think we can all agree with is we really work hard to get those images just the way we like them. We make them, then compress them as small as we can all the while making sure the quality is retained. Having them compressed further when we upload them through the upload function in admin/setting/basic setting is, to put it bluntly ....

STUPID!

IMHO (that means, in my honest opinion) images uploaded from the admin section for the banner stuff should go DIRECTLY into the requisite folder BYPASSING the image compression scripts altogether. Also, image compression for avatars, membership icons, etc are just as stupid and need to be fixed as well.
