Looking for the best chat module at the moment.
Dolphin chat is okay, good integration with the script as Im looking to have a different room in each group.
I find it very poor for bandwidth use though, especially if a few people put cams on.
Doesnt work on iphones either which is something more chat apps are looking at and something I need.
123flash looks good, iphone compatable. Very expensive though if you want to use it properly. Can cost thousands to get it setup properly.
Anyone have any recomendations on whats best to use?
Must support good amount of connection,
be able to run on separate server so not to eat Dolphin bandwidth
be iphone compatable
Be able to post an individual chat room on different pages of Dolphin
thats my list :-)

I have been using 123flashchat for over 2 years and really like it. The chat which comes with dolphin is okay but there is no control for the admin which makes it difficult to moderate. The module is easily integrated into your dolphin db so members have one sign in instead of multiple. The module comes with a nice feature to go on your index page showing the room names, the members using chat, and the number who are in the room. It does cost a little bit but for software and hosting, it appears to be working for me so far. I have checked out many other web cam chat applications and know from personal experience that some can be extremely pricey and require a lot of knowledge to use. Good luck with your site and your addition of the chat. x Get on the highway of life or sit at the side of the road and watch the world pass you by. |
Thanks, what version of flashchat are you using?
Could you pm me your site if possible to have a look at it in motion?
Im hopeing that I can have a different chat room still within each group which I have with Dolphin, Ive been told by 123fc that the 'pro' bundle supports multiple chat 'groups' but have not made clear if these are still only available on 1 chat page, or if they can be placed site wide...

i would strongly request a demo of what the groups support actually involves?

the admin control factor of 123fc is extremely intuitive, and where i have not had the opportunity nor requirement to explore on the level in which you are needing to use the chat, i can tell you that it far surpasses the default chat leaps and bounds.
good choice of chat, pricey, but good choice of chat.

It does look good, but they charge a premium price!
The package they are quoting me to include iphone support, unlimited connections (I still have to provide my own 2nd server to cover this...), ability to post multiple 'groups' etc is coming in at over $4000...!
Thats a big investment for a single feature!
Im not sure the default chat will cut it though, Ive had a site with around 40 connections running at same time and it was very messy.
Does Dolphin have the ability to turn off the video chat and just run text, but still have the chat module running on a 2nd server so not to guzzle resources?
I have a big site launch coming up soon, which could have thousands of chat users across multiple chat rooms at any single time...

yes, you can turn off the AV feature on the rayz chat, just untick the RMS option in the admin settings on the flash apps.
this however, also disables video comments.

i think you should also get a quote from flashcoms on the same scope of work. yeah $4K is stiff,
and FYI, watch out for the whitelable cost, i think another $200.00
and admin integration another $200.00
so in the end, you could have a $10K chat system
and you are correct, you would still need your own media server to run this.

Doesnt turning off RMS on dolphin, then mean that your chat will share normal site bandwidth though? Although for text chat Im not sure how much this would use?

Okay, so have done some looking around, with lots of emails back and forth to various chat script suppliers...
So far though, nothing has given what Im looking for!
I either find embedable scripts, that are run by another host, unfortunately, these are then non-exclusive to my site members as they appear on the host site also...
or
A script that will give me 1 single chat room, but charge me the earth for features.
123flashchat which is on marketplace as an integration, just offers 1 single chat room, this can be placed around the site, but all users on all pages, will all see each other... like copies of the same chat room with same members around my site.
I need multiple chat rooms, each with its own userbase to be available around my site. Either on its own URL or within HTML block.
Dolphins own chat room will suport this, is there a way to host just the dolphin chat room on its own server though so it does not interfere with my script bandwidth??? Im not bothered about the video chat so much, just text chat.
Has to be on 2nd server though...

flashcoms and 123FC are most likely the better two options pricey though.

are you sure you can only create one room with this? im going to go examine that, because i dont recall that being a limit.
I need multiple chat rooms, each with its own userbase to be available around my site. Either on its own URL or within HTML block.ok here is the deal, and i will investigate 123FC, but you are not going to get a separate userbase, as you indicate, the best you could hope for, and i think i seen this setting, would be to create groups those groups can then or should be able to be assigned, then i think you would, though i am not altogether sure, but in the admin panel, you would generate the script for any given room(s), and you should be able to take that html or js, and create block .
anton or one of those guys, deano even, could possibly write you an if then else to check the membership ID, and based on that add a quick link to the members profiles.
anywho, let me go gander at that room creation.

Thanks DosDawg, the sales team at 123fc told me to use the chats-group function to create new rooms which could then be placed on different pages of my site. Thing is you have to pay $100 PER group to be created....
I am trying to place a different chat room within each of my groups, of which there will be hundreds!
That woul dbe a lot of $...
I do have the chat available in group module already to allow Dolphin chat rooms in each group, this works fine, just if I can get it to run on a separate server as it could use a chunk of bandwidth...
Anyone know how bandwidth intense just using the text chat is, without video?
|
bandwidth on text chat is minimal, to a point, depends on how many are using the txt chat.

ok well i have not made it back to check on 123fc, so stilll need to make it over and see what the heck is going on. now is that $100.00/group if you are hosted on their server, or in general even if you are running the chat on your own server?

The sales guy I was speaking to understood that I was looking to host on my own server, and still said it would cost $100 per group to setup additional groups.
I also dont understand how they can charge a few thousand $ for the script, then charge another $1000 just to let the script have unlimited users?
Surely, its the same script just with the limit removed. Its not the most complex script!
Ive looked at a few other chat scripts, they either do not offer integration with DOlphin, which would then mean additional work and possible problems, or they are not able to post multiple chat rooms, or are not iphone compatable etc...
So far, the standard Dolphin chat (other than iphone) looks to be the best option! I only need to use it within my groups, which I have the mod for. So long as I can set it up on another server, then it should be okay. Maybe D8 will offer iphone compatible chat?...

Does anyone know if 123flashchat is compatible with D7.0.9 Giving it another shot...... |
Yes 123flashchat is compatible with 7.0.9 That is what I have and have the most up to date version of the chat as well. Get on the highway of life or sit at the side of the road and watch the world pass you by. |
man all you need to the groups chat module here for rayz,, rayz sales it here in the market,, i bought it, all my groups have their own video chat rooms and they love it.
far as best chat system, i just bought flashcoms community chat7 as my main chat, it wasnt cheap and took about 2 weeks working with support to get everything installed right and ironed out right but my users love it and i think it was a good investment.
but again for as your groups having chat all you need is http://www.boonex.com/m/Group_Chat
and my own opinion is i looked into flashchat, and well i honestly hate the feel of it

they have a module they will give you when you buy it,, but it takes some tweaking and took them a week to get it complied right,, far as the media server it dont use the same rms as the rayz chat,, you will either need a real red5 server or a flashmedia server,, it was a little work to get it going but it was worth the investment i think,, flashcoms offers hosting on the media but the lowest package cost is 60 a month and goes up from there,, but i think it is way better then 123 and alot cheaper,, and right now im running off of their hosting package
