Hi, I removed my free license, and added the ad-free license to my site, and it worked fine - the Boonex advertisments disappeared. Now this morning, the ads seem to have re-appeared. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do about it?

Thanks

This has happened to me. It may be two things:
- Empty your browser's cache and check again
- Go to admin / plug in / ray and see if all the ad-free license codes are still there. Sometimes you'll get another warning that some plug ins are not registered. Just input the registration numbers again and you should be good to go.

Hi Aeustudios,
-
I cleared the cache, and it doesn't seem to be that. Then I went to Ray - no error messages or anything, but I had one unregistered widget (one that I didn't want anyway). I registered this with the Dolphin ad-free license, but the boonex footer ads are still there. Any other ideas?

UPDATE - just came up with another idea. I deleted the license from admin/settings/advanced settings, logged out, then logged back in. Strangely, it didn't ask for the license with that red form, so that didn't work either. Has this happened to anyone else? Any other ideas?

Believe it or not, this happened to me too. What I did (as a test) is reinstalled one of the ad-free ray plug-ins (CHAT) as follows:
1. Using FTP, I reinstalled ray/modules/CHAT/app
2. Using FTP, I reinstalled ray/modules/CHAT/inc/contants.inc.php
3. Using FTP, I reinstalled ray/modules/xml/main.xml
Make sure to change permissions on main.xml to 666
Then go to admin panel, plugin, click on Ray.
It should state that ONE plugin is not registered. It should be CHAT (since you just reloaded it).
Enter in your ad-free license code.
Go to your chat to see if ads are removed.
If the ad links are removed from CHAT, then you will need to do all the above again for each plug in.
Good Luck

YUCK - but thank you. I wonder why it worked before and then stopped working? |
Happening to my license as well; the boonex footers in chat, shoutbox and footer. WTF is going on?

I wrote Boonex technical support about this and got the following response:
-
Dear Rob.
The problem with "returning ads" has been fixed in 6.1.5 and 6.1.6
-
I don't want to try another upgrade until they get the mess straightened out. Does anyone know if I can delete that footer information "Powered by" stuff? I know I can legally now, but will there be any technical implications? In other words, will Boonex somehow screw up my site if I do this?

Thanks

what are you referring to when you say LEGALLY now ?
|
I mean that since they have given away the adfree licenses, and have admitted that there is a technical problem with 6.1.4 for their automatic removal, they shouldn't have any problem with my removing it if I am using it for that site. Were you trying to read something else into this? Does anyone know the answer to my original question - will there be any implications from my doing this?

oh ok
sorry i misunderstood you
go to admin panel
go and find languages
search for ( powered )
change ot what your needs are

It will disable your site if you try to get rid of the ads by means other than using the license code that you have. You should really upgrade to 6.16 so that the license issues go away. There are other fixes that have been added that make it worth while too. (IMHO)
They aren't going to tell anyone how to manually disable them because the information would almost certainly leak out and everyone would be disabling their ads without the legal rights to do so. I understand that you have the right to have an ad-free site, but by not upgrading you are choosing to live with the ads. It isn't right - but it is what it is.

EDITTED this post
this is corected down below on my next post and yes your correct referring to the topic starter of this thread.
|
I don't see how this would be breaching the terms of service - I would still be using one of my legal licenses. As far as upgrading to 6.1.6 - there are some very good reasons to hold off on that now - but that is a different issue. I will write Boonex again and ask how I should handle this.

Rob, just do it. Comment out the line in _footer.php until you can get a copy of Dolphin that's stable enough to run on a live site. Boonex has bigger things to worry about. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Thanks Houston - I was just worried that there was some automated procedure that would disable something - it sounds like you are saying they would have to look at it and make the decision. I'll make that change and keep a backup file.
