Boonex shut down b/c "high resource consumption"?

Hi,

Recently our VPS was shut down and needed to be restarted due to "high resource consumption". According to our hosting provider.  Were running  a VPS 2.4 ghz dedicated, 4 CPU cores, 1664 mb dedicated, 384 mb burst.

We have recently been receiving more and more "New User joined" and "New User Confirmed" in our inbox. I am talking about a couple thousand in a month or two. In cpanel our awstats in February alone is showing over 6,000 unique visitors, 8.8 gb of data transfer, with wide diverse ip addresses being connected.

Our hosting provider did the install for us and made all necessary updates and patches. Our concern is somehow someone is using our platform for spamming of some sort. We are receiving no "bounce back" emails in our Admin email account. However we do get emails saying "Database error in website-name". Is anyone aware of this glitch in Boonex? How can it be resolved, if this is a glitch?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, not sure were to go untill this is confirmed. Thank You

- Nicholai

Getting those numbers in 'new members' (1,000s a month) is almost guaranteed spammers (bots). Bots are configured to use actual email account just to make sure there are no 'bounce backs' on emails. There are plenty of topics here in the forum regarding spammers. Just do a search.

Do you have blogs installed? If so, you can check out all the spam content there :)

The database error could be for several reasons.. corrupt tables, SQL timeouts, etc. Not sure without the actual error.

1664 mb dedicated, 384 mb burst.

are you saying 16GB or 1.6GB here?
