CPU usage too high

Hi,

I did read many many threads about CPU usage high, and I'm wondering if Boonex are going to do something about this in 7.2 ?

Not all of us can afford to go for a dedicated server or higher while most of us just starting building our community slowly , so please this needing to be sorted out in 7.2

Boonex management needing to do few test on shared server for dolphin and find out why cpu usage is getting high with only one member on site.

Constant high CPU loads are most likely the cause of a bottleneck somewhere else in your system. It could be that you don't have enough memory available to proces the request at once, or that your drives are too busy doing other things, causing a wait.

From what I've seen, the most important part for running Dolphin smoothly is a well optimised database. Unfortunately well optimised DBs and shared hosting don't go together. The default settings that most hosting companies use are insufficient to process DB requests fast enough. Also the memory allocated to Apache/PHP in shared hosting is mostly not what you want and you can see all this back in the loading time of pages.

If you believe there is something wrong with the system, you should investigate what is causing these high CPU loads. So monitor Apache, MySQL, your drives, memory consumption, etc. to see where the time is spent. Change those parameters and do more monitoring until you get to a point where you're happy with the way resources are used. These things will be hard to do on shared systems because this most likely involves the help of your provider.

what would be the right solution ? i'm on a shared host and want to switch to :

Vps ? Dedicated sever ? Cloud Hosting ?

What would be my best choice to run this shit faster ?

You're probably in a cheap, resource overselling hosting? At least get a decent shared host first, like zarconia.

I looked at the base shared hosting package of Zarconia and it is priced at many of the shared hosting on the internet.  They don't make the claim that you can have unlimited disk space and bandwidth; there is no such animal; especially bandwidth; shared hosts on the net making that claim will throttle your site if you go over some set bandwidth that they won't tell you.  If you are in the development stage of your site, the Zarconia base share hosting will be more than suitable.

As posted earlier, some hosting companies are more about quantity instead of quality. If they can shove 200 hosting accounts on 1 server to try and save a few bucks, they will.

I'm looking for a uk data center closer home :) for more performance ...or this is just a myth lol

If your member base is going to be primary in the UK and Europe, then yes, having a datacentre closer to them will therapeutically help; less hops for the packets to go through.  However, the real performance connection wise will be what their home internet speed is.  I connect to servers all over the world and don't really see location as an issue with today's net.  When I perform speed tests on my ISP, the further away the test server from my home I can see a difference due to the number of hops the data packets have to make.

If the reason you are wanting a UK server is for performance due to distance from your members, then don't pass up servers in Europe because the location will be relatively close to you.  When comparing prices between US and UK/Europe, you will need to take into account VAT.  Currently renting a server in the US carries no additional tax as you will see in UK/Europe, you need to look at total cost in comparing the servers.
