Cannot Change membership level on profile

I just found out that I cannot change someone membership level to anything else and save the profile if there mandatory fields still not filled in...

How do I fix that?

you can go in admin and click members and then click a member and you can change the membership levels

but if the member hasnt filled out the fields that are mandatory or have limits of text filled in, you can not save the profile after you change the membership level. Because it will give a error saying the fields arent filled out.

and the reason I am changing the level is because it is a friend of mine that I am "Giving the Hookup" so to speak.

You should be clicking on "Set Membership" button, not the "Save" button at the bottom of profile.

Yes your right..but refresh page and your settings as you see have been "set" and saved just by pressing the set membership button.

Ok this is what happens. I have 3 sites and they all do the same thing.

I go to admin

I click on members

I click on a member

It brings up their edit profile page

under status I see their current membership level

I see a set membership button

I click it

then the membership dropdown rolls into place along with the time period set for days

I select the level I want and my days or unlimited for the days

Then I click starts immediately

after that nothing happens

Soo I click refresh...

it resets the level back to level before

So no matter what I try,, even on 3 different sites, it doesnt change, unlesss I am able to save the profile..

What else can I try?

Sorry for the dumbest question ever, but do you scroll down and click "Save"?

Well the whole question I have been having, ...  was the only way for me to change the membership level was to click save.

But if there were mandatory fields that have not been filled in, it would not allow me to save.

So right now the only way for me to change the level is to make all field non mandatory and also take out the limits on text areas. Then I can click save.

Ok, yes, that is right, if you change the mandatory fields, that will after all new joining users but also all the previous ones whenever you try to change something on their profile like changing membership, so the only option is really filling in what is requested/missing or change back the mandatory fields....

I think there needs to be a check for admin in the edit profile page, allowing the admin to make a change to the profile without having to make all those changes.

something like

if   (admin=1)  or something

then (mandatory fields =0) or something to that effect

allowing the admin to save bypassing the mandatory checks

Builders => Profile Fields => Edit Profile => click on Admin

possible solution 1:

Move Items you have problems with when you save, from Active Items to Inactive Items.
Only drawback is, Items you have moved to Inactive Items are missing if you will edit your own profile, because you are admin.
Are ther only a few items you have problem with, I had used this solution.

possible solution 2:
1)
Move all Active Items bellow General Info and Misc Info to Inactive Items

2)
Move General Info and Misc Info block to Inactive Block

Will now only have Admin Controls Block as Active, with this Active Items bellow it: Status, Featured and Membership.

You will have same problem now, all Items you have moved to Inactive Items are missing if you will edit your own profile.
you need to join again as a regular member if you wish to use and edit your profile later.

Well I appreciate all the help I think what I might do is not only move just admin field to inactive, but also just make just a few fields mandatory that way i dont have to remember which ones are which

but I do thank you for the repsonses so far, I will try it out

Im confused about this process, and the lack of others having problems with it. I am with Arnman here, and I have the same problem. I see this as a bug that needs to be changed really.

As an admin, I should have simple access to change the users info, as well as their membership level. In my case, I can not do such thing because I do not know the users password. As I save the page after selecting a new membership level, I get the red dot and the inability to save because there is no "confirmed password " in the second box.

Please tell me there is a mod for this somewhere...or something I am doing wrong?

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.

Didnt there used to be numbers next to the users name in the admin>members section? Now I dont have them. I thought that was how I changed membership level. Is there something I dont have set correctly? I looked in "geeky, simple, and extended"

if you want to get brave, and of course make a backup of your database. you can edit the database for the specific user, and you wont have to modify all of those fields.

also, why not make the member complete the registration or remove those fields from the registration altogether?

In a way, you are right, we always have the DB manual change option...

On the second one, I can not agree with you. We face the exact same problem, because we made some fields mandatory last November. We did that because it was relevant information, so removing the fields is no option. On the other hand, asking all the 2.000 members to update their profile is not feasible, as some will just ignore your request...

This is even more serious in the case a member with mandatory new fileds not filled as they will not get a new password if they press the "forgot pass" button, because the system is unable to edit and save a profile with mandatory fields missing...the exact same way Admin is unable to edit and chage their profile.

I guess the perfect solution would be to have the mandatory fields never changed, but I guess that is utopic.

Go into your admin panel > builders > Pages blocks >  Profile fields

Simply click and drag the items you do not want to have to deal with.  Make sure you click all the tabs and set up everything the way you want it to.  So make sure to click and change the following:

Join Form

Edit Profile (Admin/Owner)

View Profile  (Admin/Member/Visitor)

Search Profiles (Simple/Quick/Advanced)

*Make sure to change each as it applies

Hope this helps a bit.  I've got an entirely different problem as just reinstalled and can't get membership module to work.  Have a great day.

i know i am speaking out of turn here. but to me the way around this is to have the join form completed prior to the first member joining.

yes this is a glitch, and yes admin should be able to modify those profiles though mandatory fields are not completed.
