Not a reliable test.
Traceroute relies on ICMP which is blocked by some routers.
Have you tried to ping boonex.com? Or use the command traceroute -T boonex.com
The -T option(Thats a capitol T) tells traceroute to use TCP syn instead of ICMP
It is not likely that your failed trace is the cause. If the ping succeeds then you need to look at other causes. Such as the php option for allow_url_fopen, or security software such as mod_security.
The problem is at your end, not the boonex side. And if your host does not know that can't rely on traceroute for 100% accuracy then they are idiots that should not be running a hosting company. https://www.deanbassett.com |
using -T still same. .
ping
@indotop10 ~]# ping boonex.com
PING boonex.com (173.192.32.154) 56(84) bytes of data.

Another case where these self-appointed, no oversight, spam groups block a whole range of IP address thereby harming people that have done no wrong. It is time something is done about these groups. I am all for dealing with spam but it is time it is done by responsible groups appointed by an oversight committee.

Yeah right. Maybe if the folks in that part of the world didn't employ countless people whose only mission in life is to sit at a computer and spam and hack websites, they wouldn't get their entire subnets banned. The fault is not with the people blocking this crap, the fault is with the cultures and countries that encourage this crap, and do nothing to curtail this activity.
In the days following the heartbeat stuff, I received several thousand email notices regarding repeated login attempts on various sites. Most of those originated from Asian/Pacific Rim countries. If an entire range of IPs is used frequently by spammers and hackers, then blacklisting is appropriate. If the owner of that IP range doesn't care about those that have "done no wrong", why should anyone else care?

I guess this logic could be applied to anything. If there is a community in a town that has a lot of criminals, then arrest everyone in that community. That is what these self-appointed spam companies do and it is for making money, selling their blacklists to people like Boonex that ended up blocking a person that purchased a license but could not register it. I have had my email address caught up in those blocks and you have to hound them to get it released. There is no oversight of these companies; no real means of disputing the ban except through the companies. HL, I think you would have a different opinion if your IP address was banned not because of any wrong doing on your part but because your IP address happened to be in the same subnet. Instead of just banning an entire range of IPs because it is the easy way, ban the individual ones that are doing the spamming.

I second Houston. His provider set him up in a spammy subnet that was blocked (which looks to no longer be the case, according to Spamhaus). Your entire subnet isn't blocked on a whim, it happens because too many addresses have been found sending spam repeatedly, or similar abuses (like brute force attacks, and we block entire countries ourselves because of those).
He got caught in the crossfire. It's unfortunate, but it happens. BoonEx whitelisted him and now all is well.

Perhaps so, but I host with someone that cares how their network is used. As far as your suggestion of arresting everybody in a town infested with criminals, that might not be a bad idea, for the same reasons. If the so called innocent sit around and do nothing to stop criminal activity, they deserve some of the consequences that befall them. It's about taking responsibility for that which is yours, and not waiting around for someone else to fix all your problems.

After some more investigation it was discovered that spamhaus block list was not updated for a some time already (the same subnet 28.199.0.0/16 was not blocked in the http://spamhaus.org/ website).
The problem was fixed and now the block lists should be always actual.
