You have to do it in your c-panel. Your hosting can help you with that, or simply go to manage domains, and hit the "change primary domain", and follow instructions.

But only if you have purchased your domain through them

Back to pulling my hair out! (ouch, ouch, ouch)

I mixed a vague question with a definite answer. Besides, if he wants to change his domain, he might will come to this question. So two flies at one.

If you already have the domain, you can move your site's files to the new directory (if needed) and change the address and path information in your /inc/header.inc.php file. You'll have to clear your site's cache afterwards.

Will I lose anything ( templates, mods ect..)

Before I change the name I would like to ask a question about my current site name. Do you guys think e3global1 is a cool name for a social network? the name means a lot to me, its a family thing. But there are some harsh critics out there who bash the name. What do you all think?

Everything should continue to work as normal. I don't really have much of an opinion on the name, though. I think you should go with whatever you're comfortable with, but also take in the opinion of your users (not the best answer, I know).

Thanks Mag, My members are fine with the name they say its a different and unique name for a social network. The reason I'm considering changing it is because I post a link on reddit and these guys were brutal in there comments which kind of discourage me a little. But for some reason I want to keep the current name.

I think you recieved some good suggestions from them, actually, and I'd take them into consideration. You should also remembed that it's reddit. You can't just drop a link with a quick message and expect acceptance. That's not how the hivemind works.

because you are on shared hosting, that is why you have to get Arvixe to change the name, however, its a 2 min process then you have to edit your header.inc.php file to reflect the changed domain.

as to why they want to charge you $9.00 is beyond me.

I'd assume it's to register the domain, but if it's only to change the primary domain, it's ridiculous.

there is a setting in WHM for modifying the account, so to charge $9.00 for that is obscene, but hey, i see others are getting away with it

Sorry to be blunt here, but just let me say what I am sure many are thinking.....

The domain name stinks. Why? It is hard to remember and it's long (but not memorable). That's not to say it can't work for you. Anything can work with enough applied effort and a lot of luck.

I'm sorry if that stings, but you asked. This is the most honest response I could give you and I would have never done it had you not (asked). I know you mentioned that others have been "brutal" to you about your domain name and I'm really not trying to do that. I'm just being honest.

Bottom line is.... if you like it? Who cares. It's your baby, not mine. If you are getting members and income - you are doing better then most around here (myself included)(I keep waiting for the holy grail - a truly working release)(Been doing that since 5.x).

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. If you're happy, be happy. If you're not, change things around a bit.

I hope I didn't offend you - but the first thing I thought when I saw your domain name was something along the order of ... "that name is really bad". (I'm actually being kind with my wording via word substitution)

Whatever you decide, good luck.

The name is unique and memorable, I would keep it especially as your members like it. One other thing, if the name invokes such a response, you must be doing something right. If their talking about it.... "No publicity is bad publicity"

There are none so blind as those that will not see.

Another problem is that the domain itself is not very original since "e3global.com" is a Japanese company that registered the domain in 2000 and (yours) "e3global1.com" is owned by an American in California, originally registered in 2006 - but created in 2010 (which is when I assume you got the domain).

It would be like calling your site boonex1.com - not the best idea (legally) in the long term, though I don't know if you have some kind of official association with the orginal e3global domain.

I'm curious - did you not know about the *already existing* e3global.com or were you just trying to pull some business by using their domain name with a "1" after it?

I would have never looked at the whois for this domain, but the "1" really made me wonder. I mean, why add a "1" unless a person is...

a.) foolish enough to needlessly add to the length of a domain name

or

b.) trying to leech from another pre-existing domain?

It appears that "b" is the correct answer here unless I'm missing something.

Sorry Stuart, but unique this domain name it is not. Not even close.
