The fields "city", "country", and "zip" are all required to start a new group, but not all groups are geographically based. Boonex, please take note of this minor bug.

Agree with that, its not needed for all the local groups. Kids first |
I was wondering about this also. Some groups have members from all over the globe so I shouldn't have to put in this information. At the very least it should be optional, not mandatory - or removed altogether. |
I agree...a group can be composed by some users that love a brand and make a group about it..in this case country, city and zip have no sense.. |
Looks like they didn't bother fixing this in D7B7 - even though it is just removing a setting, and should be trivial. What was that you said before Luca - about having to bump things like this repeatedly in the hopes that Boonex might take notice. |
You can always point "internet" as group location, don't think it is a big problem. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
Someone write "Internet," someone "bla-bla-bla", the country will still have to necessarily choose ... garbage. I understand that is not critical. But at least in 7.1 make it, please. |

Thank you Michel. Alex, I don't really get this "nothing is ever a bug" attitude. I mean, requiring zip code for groups? Zip codes aren't even used much in countries other than the U.S. are they? - and even if they are, there can certainly be groups whose members span many zip codes. I think everyone here is happy to see some involvement by a representative of Boonex here, but if you are just going to "go through the motions" by responding occasionally to reports at the top of this forum it won't do much good either. Dozens of fairly serious bugs and issues have already been reported here that have been ignored. That is why people think they have to keep "bumping" them in the hopes they will be considered. I think someone from Boonex should go through all the old posts for the last few betas at least and do a serious evaluation to determine whether they represent an issue that should be addressed. You can always point "internet" as group location, don't think it is a big problem. Not to be assine, but all the groups in boonex are on the "internet", otherwise you wouldn't see it would you City, zip, location for a group does not make sense. Acutally, the same requirement is on sounds and videos? how does location make sense for a field? We would understand more if the developers put their thoughtprocess for that. (putting internet again would be redunent for the locaiton as all the files are on the internet) |
The problem was promptly solved (thank you Sasha) and the ticket is already closed. City, Zip and Country are not mandatory any more ;-) Life is a fatal disease, sexually transmissible - Virginity is carcinogenic! Ask here for vaccine. |
Well, not mandatory in a version we don't have yet - or are you making real-time updates? Is there some way to do that in Trac? |
Rob, from Trac, click Timeline, this is where you see the tickets open & closed, plus the changeset to the files. In this case the changeset (Ticket 1301) for this fix there is one file only, so just make the changes, you will see the color code to work out what is new & old. If there are a number of files involved, or a number of lines, then from the bottom you will see Download in Other Formats, select Zip Archives. You should know what to do from there. Dan. Thanks Dan - because the betas have been every two weeks or so, I didn't delve into it too much. What does it mean though when they close a ticket with now download or changes? This one that I finally got reopened by Alex is now shown as being closed by Alex. http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#topic/Multiple-selectable-options-get-cut-off.htm Does that mean they now consider it not to be a problem, or that it has been fixed but not documented? I'm finding this incredibly frustrating. Please see Okwebs comments on that thread - the multiple select checkboxes absolutely look like crap - makes the whole product look like crap. Any idea what is going on? Rob |
Rob, when you look at the bottom of ticket, it states Fixed, so a fix was made,, top right of the ticket will tell you how long ago the fix was applied. From Timeline, search for the closed ticket, this will have a green tick in it, near by you will see the the Changeset, this is what you need to look at. http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/changeset/12885 Dan From the land DownUnder |
Thanks Dan, this has been educational, and is obviously something I need to know. So when you find the closed ticket, is the changset generally right below it? In this case are they saying I can fix this by just replacing those two changed lines? I'm a little frustrated because it seems it is getting more difficult to communicate with Boonex. I have a join form that is hanging so I wrote support a careful letter describing the problem, and I also mentioned that I had removed the "multiple page" option that was causing problems and was using a single page join form. They wrote back saying that the "multiple page" form had a problem, but they had created a ticket. Arrrraggghhhh! In this case, they can't have really fixed the whole issue because it would have to involve fixes to more than one file - the join form itself, and the profile builder files to set the number of rows and items like we had in D6 - but this may be a patch that will work for now. Thanks for your help. Rob |
Not related to Boonex, but I just tried to download and extract the zip as you recommended, and it seems Windows latest security patch now prevents me from extracting the files. Grrrrr - god I hate that company! Apparently I am not alone on this one http://help.wugnet.com/windows/Windows-unzip-zip-files-blockedftopic-502661-days0-orderasc-16.html Has anyone come across this problem? |
