Color issues with Video message (record video)

Does anyone else have this issue? ... When trying to "record" a video message (Videos, upload, "record"), the skin color is very blue and other colors are inverted (something blue appears yellow, etc), and also the video quality is extremely poor....even though I have a real high quality web cam.

I thought it may be due to problems with the RMS server, which I just had activated, but they say the RMS server is just for streaming, not image quality or color problems.

So I wonder if this is an issue for every Dolphin site, should I have RMS server check deeper, or is there something else I can have done? This is horrible! No one wants to record a video of themselves when they are BLUE....unless they are a smurf!!

Your provider is half right and wrong.. lol

RMS is for chat rooms, and processing the video comments.

I have brought this up long time ago and learned more about it back then.

This link is an example of a video comment from back then processed on my RMS.

http://floridabeachwebcams.com/m/sounds/view/Ian-Van-Dahl-Castles-In-The-Sky-Breakbeat-Mix

The sound is set for auto so make sure the speakers are not full blast.

Most providers are still using the older RMS servers and have not upgraded when 7.1 came out, we made a switch over back then to the new version.

[edit] it's just a few seconds on the video comment but you see it is not completely off, except for the guy sitting there.

Thank you for the reply Newton. I viewed your video comment, but your video colors and quality look fine....you are not blue. Also, I am not referring to a video comment inside the Music (Sounds) module, it is inside the Videos module. Path: Videos Home >  Upload (upper right) > choose album  > choose "record" (pulldown menu) ... then image from your webcam appears. This is where the image colors are all messed up. My skin is blue, other colors are inverted, and video quality is extremely poor.

I use the RMS-Free Chat by Rayz, so don't even need RMS for the chat. My problem is with recording a video message inside Videos module, as well as inside LiveVideo (by Rayz). Rayz said the problem is an issue with the RMS server. They are supposedly "looking into it", but it has been almost 5 days now. I thought maybe someone in this forum could offer some insight.

I just tried the record function in the Videos module on the Demo site .... the video colors and quality looked fine. I also know that it is not my webcam, since I use it often on Skype and other live video. So I'm thinking this must be a problem with the RMS server or something wrong with my Videos module. This is the standard Videos module installed with Dolphin.

 All the same site wide.

Glad to hear you contacted Rayz.

Like I said, old RMS server is likely the culprit.

Like I said, old RMS server is likely the culprit.

Newton, the following is the most recent response I received from Arvixe tech support on this issue:

"We are running Red5 RMS 7.0. This should work correctly with the latest versions of dolphin.

Should the system be working, but the video is of poor quality etc. you'll need to raise this to the script creator to see if they can provide advice.

Our systems are setup for the majority of applications to work correctly, but customisations are sometimes needed and these are advised by the application creators."

So this is why I reposted this topic, asking for someone from Boonex tech to help with this issue.

I hope they meant 7.1.0. "7.0" as they mentioned is not accurate, and is it's 7.0.x then it's not the latests version of RMS.

In a post on the Dolphin forum, dated 3/13/2013, another member was using Arvixe hosting and their RMS server. At that time, two years ago, he stated this about Arvixe RMS server version:

They upgraded to 7.1 on my shared server to try help sort out this problem. I was told it was not compulsory to upgarde to VPS or dedicated. They might have done that for me as a favor since I've been struggling with this for so long.

RMS is for chat rooms, and processing the video comments.

That's also incorrect.  RMS does not, will not process video.  That job is left to FFMPEG.

rms streams to an flv file then the flv file gets sent back to the file server for conversion by ffmpeg.

Also note if you are using a Mac then there is a known bug with some webcams that will mess up the colors or even scroll colored lines on a 45.

Thanks again, Jay! I do use a Mac, but my webcam is a Logitech via usb port. What is a "45"?

you can try mine as well:

host: rms-hosting.com

1935

5080

colored lines on a 45 degree angle

Try chrome one a mac then try safari then try firefox.  chrome i think for the most part has issues with the video recorder.

Great. I will try your server and see if that helps.

I use Firefox and have no issues with viewing videos. I also have no issues with other video modules on my site, such as LiveVideo (by Rayz) and video chats. It seems to be only in recording a video to upload to an album.

I tried recording video again using your RMS server, but the image still has the wrong colors. My skin is very blue, objects that should be blue are yellow-orange, and most colors are inverted. Not sure if a different RMS server will help this.

I also just tried LiveVideo... there now is no video box. So that is not working at all, but it was working on the Arvixe server. I cannot try video chat until I get my friend to test the other side, but video chat worked before, although the video quality was terrible.

This is the response I received from Arvixe tech support manager:

Unfortunately in order to use RMS 7.1, you will need to upgrade to a VPS or Dedicated server as the message you found was clearly an exception and is not normal procedure. With Shared Servers, there's a lot of users that rely on certain versions of software. We cannot simply update software for one user which a number of other users might be relying on.

This is outrageous! In other words they choose to stay in the dark ages and use outdated RMS servers in order to not disturb the sites of users using the outdated servers, rather than upgrading to the current RMS 7.1, leaving new users without the ability to use video message and other video functions that rely on RMS 7.1. ...unless you get VPS or dedicated server.

I am planning to switch hosting provider again. Any suggestions on best hosting service for Dolphin sites that use RMS 7.1 with shared hosting and have good rates? I plan to upgrade to VPS in 2-3 months, after I get enough paid members, until then I need to keep costs down. But I need to have ALL functions working properly and reliably, especially in the beginning! I need to have paying members on my site in order to afford upgrading to VPS.
