Confused!! on critical issue!!

The FB joining thing is enough to confuse most but I joined with a testing123 profile and confirmed the e-mail set to me but this is what I got when I tried to see my profile same thing is happening when the FB connect is used which in my mind does nothing but confuse the average user........Yes you joined but it is only for that day........well when I log back in what password do I use?  Hmmm the password assigned is a temp 10 digit and cannot be reused so you need to connect again using FB now that was with a friend what about the others who could never be reached........

Ok enough of that what is going on with this permission based viewing.........I do understand the membership levels and the standard membership allows for all access any help here is greatly appreciated as this is a critical issue......PLZ see image..........

Your missing a file from my facebook connect.

profile_info_required.php

It is in the archive you downloaded and must be uploaded to the root of your site. It's a feature of my mod to make sure members have filled out all of the required profile information. That is the current cause of your profile not found error. It's just a matter of properly installing the mod as per the instructions.

As for the password issue. That can be explained as well and why a random password is generated. But most likely it will not be to your liking. Most people do not understand what facebook connect is for and many try to run it on sites that require validation of email addresses or have other restrictions in place, but facebook connect is for quick signups so facebook members can join a site without having to go through a long sign-up process. It is intended for use on open sites with few restrictions. There is also no way facebook connect can get your password from facebook. So it generates a random one which is not a problem as long as they use the facebook connect button to get back on.

But because the install of the mod was incomplete, the current problem prevents the new member from doing anything on your site caused by the missing file. Install it and that problem will go away.

Thank you for the response this has been very confusing but I think I have come up with a solution and that is to redirect the end user to my join page so they can continue on with the install and change the password at the same time and yes you are right I did not understand the FB connect process as I thought they became a member after that process was completed.

I have made it so only two fields would then be mandatory so the process is kind of a combination of joining through FB and my join process to make a much easier and FULL join process..........That should work yes......

Part of my mod solves most of the incomplete profile info problems facebook connect had in the past. But it will not work correctly until the missing file is uploaded.

Ok. I see you have not uploaded that file from my mod yet. Perhaps i need to be more clear.

This is a CRITICAL part of my facebook connect mod. Without it, no member with incomplete profile information will be able to visit the home page without getting that profile page error.

And the reason it happens is because my mod does a profile info check when the home page is visited and if info is missing will redirect them to a page to inform them of that. However that page is not there, thus they get a profile page error instead.

In Short. The missing page must be there for my mod and your site to work correctly.

Ok. The mod is working perfectly, but you need to do a test on your join form. It kept rejecting info i was putting into the headline and zip code fields. Or actually this was in pedit. while editing the profile info. Not on the actual join form.

I 'joined' also, The Facebook login worked fine, but the join form kept saying something like 'Please put in 0 characters or less' I deleted the info in those boxes and was able to proceed.

Hi CSampson, How did you integrate Deanos Facebook connect into your login box together with all those other sites? I am using Janrain's RPX Login, but I prefer Deanos solution, I want the other sites such as Twitter and Linkedn as well.

He didn't. That quick join block on his home page with the six buttons brings up a facebook logon that allows you to logon with a open social ID.

My facebook connect is tied to the button that appears on the ajax logon form with the normal dolphin logon button.

Might be why he is so confused. He has mutipal logon methods installed with 2 different facebook methods. One is mine and the other is the one he already had with the six buttons.

That error does not really supprize me. But it confuses me as to why you are just now seeing it. It's cause by a duplication of the php facebook api class. Meaning you have more than one mod installed providing logon abilities to facebook.

profile_info_required.php

I thought i already explained it. But i will try again.

There is a feature in my facebook connect mod which i added in response to complaints that members were not filling in required profile fields after joining with facebook connect.

So, my mod does a check each time the member goes to the home page to see if the member has completed their profile, and if not, redirects them to profile_info_required.php. That page updates the nag time in the database so they won't be bothered again for at least 24 hours and informs them to complete their profile and provides a link to the profile edit page.

The time frame between how often they are nagged can be changed in the facebook settings of my mod.

So basically it helps administrators get their members to complete the profile of any profile fields you have set as required information.
