Cron Jobs

Hello again,

...so i am in the middle of the installation and blocked again.

I must setup Cron Jobs but i do not any idea what it is. I went on internet to check it, i understood its principe but i do not know where to find it. In my computer or in my web space at my 1&1& host ?

I red also the installation guide, under LINUX (i have LINUX package at 1&1, i work with WINDOWS7 at home)) it is written : "Click the Cron Jobs link under your CPanel"... where is it ?

Sorry for my stupid questions, certainly it is evident for you, but for me everything is new... and i break my head since three days Sealed

Thanks, Igor

...or i must open a file in my browser ? Or i can skip this point of the installation and look for the CJ link in my admin panel ? (where is the CPanel ?)...

You can skip that part for now, but write down the cron information given. Because you will need to setup the cron job. Dolphin will not function properly without it.

cPanel is a control panel provided by your hosting company. They should have provided you a link to the control panel as well as the ID and password to access it. So contact your host 1&1 for cron job setup help. Cron jobs are setup on the hosting side. So are all the php.ini settings that i recently saw in one of your other posts.

Thanks for your VERY USEFUL info ! Well, i learnt that my package at 1&1 does not come with SSH, so i can not use Cron Jobs... i must upgrade to another package.

Thanks again for your help !

Sorry, a question, can i substitute CJ service by my host with the service of this : http://www.cronjobs.org ?

I do not see where SSH is required for cron jobs. The only reason i would see a need for that is if they do not provide a control panel in which case the cron jobs would need to be setup manually which would require SSH.

This is actually the first time i have heard a host say SSH is needed to setup cron jobs.

Not likley. To run the command most likely would require some form of remote access into your server which would indeed require SSH and i would not trust it and i would think it may also open additional security problems.

Ok, i trust in you, i forget them...

1&1 says : "Only those packages which come with SSH access will be able to utilize Cron Jobs as configuration has to be completed via command line." - so, when i will upgrade, i will come back with this question because for me it is Chinese language again (configuration with command line). Undecided

I have this problem also.

I also host my site at 1and1.com. I have a business hosting package, and as this thread suggests, there is no cron utility in the 1and1 control panel.

After speaking with support at 1and1.com (which is stellar by the way), I was directed to this document in their FAQ library: http://faq.1and1.com/web_space__access/ssh/4.html

The document gives instructions for using PuTTY to create a cron job.

Frankly, I'm a little over my head here. The install script generated the cron job scripting, but I have very limited experience using a SSH terminal.

I'm not finding the documentation I need to make the translation from the code generated by the install script to the commands I need to enter to the SSH terminal.

From the install script (sanitized):

MAILTO=site@domain.com

* * * * * cd /kunden/homepages/35/d391823431/htdocs/domain.com/subdomain.domain.com/periodic; /usr/local/bin/php -q cron.php

I would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance here.
