Custom HTML Block Error?

Why don't HTML Commands work in the custom HTML block... Does anyone know why? When working with the custom HTML block in Dolphin admin settings, why does it not respond to basic HTML commands? For example, I want to start a new paragraph <p> or change the font color <font color> or scroll the text <marquee> Why don't these commands work in this block if it is an HTML block?

works just fine
no need to post the same question again :)

<marquee behavior="scroll" direction="left" scrollamount="1">your text here</marquee>

Anything put in brackets shows up as that (for example <p> shows up as <p> on the website)?

I should be more specific on where this problem is happening. It happens when in Settings -> basic settings -> Promo -> Use custom HTML block.

works just fine, you can test this code

<table width="100%" border="1" style="border-collapse: collapse" bordercolor="#D7D7D7" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0">
<tr><td bgcolor="#F4F7FA">
<marquee behavior="scroll" direction="left" scrollamount="4">
<font color="#797979" size="4">
Latest Newsarticles</font></marquee><br><br>
<p align="left">
<font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>
<a href="http://www.mysite_1.com" target="_blank">Link 1</a><br>
<a href="http://www.mysite_2.com" target="_blank">Link 2</a><br>
<a href="http://www.mysite_3.com" target="_blank">Link 3</a><br>
<a href="http://www.mysite_4.com" target="_blank">Link 4</a>
</b></font></p>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but i have to ask you anyway.

The promo area is different from the page builder html blocks.

The one in the promo area is a tinymce editor, the page builder ones are not.

So with the tinymce editor you need to click the html icon to switch the editor to html mode before entering your html text.

So if your just putting your code into the editor block without switching it to html mode, then that would explain why it's displaying as your entering it.

I just realiazed i did not ask the question? Are you clicking on the html button in the editor.

But my promo block has one, okweb says his does not.

Does yours?

Mine doesn't either. I was starting to think I was going crazy here. I will post this in the bugs section. I'm guessing D7 doesn't have an HTML button in the editor. Thanks Deano and Okweb

Can to post a screen shot of your promo editor area?

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

You will see that it also looks like half of it is cut off. Does anyone else's look like this?

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

Ok, never posted an image before. I clicked insert/edit image, gave the url and the image is not posting.

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

Yes Prolaznik I did click "Use custom HTML block". If I can get my screenshot to post I can show you.

weird i have no idea what it could be
it works on my site

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

Verify your url to the image with a web browser first. Then copy the url from the browsers address bar and paste it into the url line in the insert image window. Then make sure you click the insert button.

lol....this should be reported as a bug in the bugs forum, right?

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

It is not a bug if they cannot reproduce the problem. So your post there will not do any good unless you can also show them how to reproduce the problem.

Ah, good one Deano. I've only been using Firefox because I heard it's more reliable than IE. Weird.....It looks normal in IE but Firefox shows broken like the screenshot I posted. Go figure? Should I report this as a bug when using IE?

Ok, you need to re-read your post. You said firefox was the problem, but on the last line you said report as bug for IE, so which is the problem. IE or Firefox.

I was using firefox when i took my screen shot.

I will check in IE in a sec.

Are you by chance, using some other template than the default Uni for your site?  If so, switch back to uni template, then go back to the basic settings page.

I haven't done the most recent update for Firefox. I never thought it would cause this sort of problem. Thanks for helping me figure this out guys.

Quote · 22 Jan 2010

Could be any number of things. When you get a chance, try setting up a clean firefox profile with all plugins disabled, or start firefox in safemode.

I am also aware that the firefox version of the google toolbar and the tinymce editor don't get along. And there are other compatibilty issues with flash and the google toolbar for filefox. So try disabling that if you have it installed.

I never had my question answered.   I don't think this issue is browser related.... believe it or not.

It's possible it's a template issue too. His screen shot shows the same background image in the box header as the uni template. So it does look like it might be the uni template. But it could have been messed with.

For some reason unknown, admin design boxes get css from the uni template on the user side.  I never thought that was a smart thing to do.  I have seen some templates, when installed, screwed up the design boxes in admin.  I haven't seen this issue since a late beta or RC.. not sure which.

That actually still exists in a couple areas. The round corners on some of the info boxes still do it. There are a couple of tickets that have been closed on this. I just have not bothered to download the fixes from trac to see it fixes the rest of the little glitches.

Sorry for not answering your question Houston. I was using the default template. Deano, I would never mess with a screenshot, so you don't have to worry about that. I want to help and be helped, not trick people. I think it is a browser issue. I only have 1 question, by updating the browser to the most recent version, will I lose all my bookmarks and saved tabs from the previous version? I have too many saved things to update and lose them if that is what happens. Let me know.

Should not. But you know what they say. When in doubt, do a backup.

I also was not referring to messing with the screen shot. I was referring to messing with the template, which could have broke something.

actually mine was that  way for a few days, it happened after I was editing it (using HTML block) instead of promo slideshow, when i tried to put some code in it did not like... after that it looked like his. shifted off to the side and I could not see the feature buttons, weird. this was after I did the edit to block in html mode...

after adjusting the width and some more tweaking it came back!  FM

now this is what is weird now...
