If i had to guess its because you dont have a folder called maddpoets  in modules/boonex/forum/layout.

If this is the case make a folder called maddpoets in the layout folder and try to copy what is in the /layout/base/  folder to the moddpoet folder and see what happens.

Thank Dolphin_Jay the Uni suggestion worked. However I dont see whay its looking for a folder there or what files i would need to copy to it since I followed all instructions for custom template. It would seem to me by having a custom template i need to add folders and files in places not mentioned? interesting i shall look further, but for know the forum is up!

ok i copied the uni folder from modules/boonex/forum/layout/uni  and renamed it as the same as the template name of the template i have modules/boonex/forum/layout/maddpoets

i then went back in to the admin and set the template from uni to maddpoets i went to forum management and it came up! i clicked on L[compile Lang:]]En and that went well.

I  clicked on L[compile Lang:]]Ph and that failed. asked me to check permissions.

I added a forum and i still have [[ ]] around my headings. which was not the case under the uni template as i did the same under uni as i did for Maddpoets

i will keep ya all posted as i know u are hanging on the edge of your seat to find out what happens next  lol

There is more to it than just making a copy of the uni folder.

In the renamed folder there is a perams.php file that also needs to be edited. the UNI in there in 3 places need to be replaced with the name of the template.

Also. All folders in forum/layout need to be writable. Mode 777 or 755 if your server does not take 777.

Oh, one more thing. When making a copy of UNI. Do not copy the uni_en folder. Just the uni. Edit the perams.php file as i mentioned above.

Make sure modules/forums/layout is writable. Mode 777.

Make sure all folders in modules/forums/layout are also writable.

Then try compiling again.

The information in this post should be added to the template customization wiki in trac. I am glad to have found this post.
