Someone verify this, but I believe the date of birth field cannot be set to be non-manditory. When you do, it is required anyway. I have other problems with my install, but if verified, this should be reported as a bug.

Hi, I think it's not a bug, the date of birth have to be mandatory! In dolphin you can select the start and end year range to become members, and many other features use birthday date... |
Why, if it is not in the join form field list at all then it is not manditory. I am building a business site, and decided to have an optional "social information" section - but it is not optional if the manditory field is unchecked, but it is required anyway. Someone please enter this in Trac. |
I wish to confirm this as a bug and ask that it be reported, or that Boonex take note. I added an "optional" social information section to my join form, with dob, gender, etc. In this way, I don't half to chase down every wayward social reference in the business site I am building - kind of a "if you can't beat em, join em" cheat. Unfortunately, if the "mandatory" box is unchecked, for age in field builder, it will still generate an error message when you try to join without entering it. In my case, the error was "you can't be over 75 to join" when I left it blank. This blows my "optional" social information strategy, and I request that it be fixed. |
It's not a bug. There's nothing to fix. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
DOB, is a required field on the entire platform of dolphin. i am pretty sure somebody has written about this before. Now, what you can do is request the information on the join form, but it never displays, this way you satisfy the application by providing it the material that it wants. DOB is also a security feature for you and your site, the min/max age can be changed, but the fact of the matter is that DOB is a required field, not that its required by you, but its required from the script. ID ---> UniqueID --> PrimayKey, the dob and the email address are utilized heavily on this application. that would be like writing microsoft and telling them that you didnt want excel to calculate fractions and for them to fix it, well you can figure the rest of that one out. Why would you say it is not a bug? Perhaps you could at least explain your reasoning instead of making a pithy "from the mountaintop" expression. If there is a "mandatory" check box, and you uncheck that box, but the field is still mandatory- then by definition it is a bug. For it not to be a bug, the "mandatory" checkbox could be removed since it has no function. The fact that it also gives an incorrect error message is further evidence it is a bug - or is a second bug. Dosdawg - I know DOB was required in D6 - there were at least 100 posts discussing ways around this for business sites. In D7 it is no longer required (if you leave it off the join form) - which is some progress, but the non-mandatory checkbox should work. Could someone from Boonex please weigh in on this. Since I am not a "pundit" I sometimes have to make numerous appeals and arguments before I can get something in Trac. |
Rob, just once in a while you might consider asking for clarification without your fucking snide remarks, considering that you constantly whine about my attitude. The only thing that might be considered a bug is the fact that you can even attempt to make DOB not mandatory. I really don't see what the big deal is. Most sites need this field to cover their asses in the event someone underage joins their site. It doesn't prevent minors from joining your site, but a minor representing themselves as being old enough to join your site, significantly changes your legal responsibilities. you might consider asking for clarification without your fucking snide remarks No I am not going to stoop to your level Houston - but what an OFF THE SCALE hypocrite you are! Every other post you have something nasty to say about someone here - and you actually want to be moderator! Please don't bother "considering" submitting anything to TRAC - I will make my requests directly to Boonex from now on. |
No stooping is required by you Rob. Your crybaby attitude beginning several months ago, really lowered my opinion of you. At least when I complain about something, I try to put as much effort as I can into a viable alternative. All you do is cry about things. I couldn't possibly give a rat's ass what your "opinion" of me is Houston - you are a hypocrite, and if a hypocrite like you has a low opinion of me that is just fine. Saying you "try to put as much effort as I can into a viable alternative" is a HUGE load of crap - you contradicted yourself on this very thread, and on many, many others. Please stay away from me - I don't like to associate with hypocrites. |
I had a problem with this also. It turns out that if you have a minimum and maximum age in the profile block, it automatically makes the field mandatory. Just remove that and you should be okay. |
Thank you evenstar- that is an easy fix. I had set the default age to 99 - yours is a better solution. |
