I got the same thing. I have a question for you... is your sql intact? I have the site I want to migrate on another server...so I spent all night downloading and uploading the public_html folder to the new server where I test Beta 8. It seemed to find the directory just fine but I got the same error you did. I'm wondering if I also need to transfer the sql server over. Anyone else try the data migration tool yet?

Hey Everyone,

Does the sql server need to be in place for the d7b8 data migration tool to work. I tried the tool using the file structure from the 6.1.6 site I want to transfer to D7 but it is hosted on another site so I downloaded the public_html folder to my new server where D7b8 is and it seemed to find the directory but 0 profiles were uploaded. Do I need to import the SQL first? Just wanted your opinion before I tried again.

Best Regards,
Mario

The migration tool needs the database of the old site directly, so if both systems are installed on the same server then this should working. Have not test this myself.

So it does need the sql database? I'm going to import the sql to my new server and see if that works. Fingers crossed. If this works it will be how people will be able to move to better hosting for RMS utilization. Just for a heads up I'm working on transfering a hostgator hosting account install to a blank godaddy virtual dedicated option.
