Has anyone tested this module yet? I was thinking about it but wasn't sure if it would "move" the data or "copy" the data. I wouldn't mind trying it if it copies.
Any clues?

dpi just made a post with an identical title. He said he tried it but nothing happened - it just kept saying "in process". I would really doubt that it "moves" your data and then destroys your old site. I am sure it is just a copy - but whether it works or not is another matter. There is no supported migration path to the next beta, so even if it does work you may have to trash it later. Boonex has said nothing about it, and there are no instructions. I assume you have to start with a fresh install - I may try it tomorrow. Rob |
Is it possible to have a migration of data from the 6.x to the beta 7? |
Is it possible to have a migration of data from the 6.x to the beta 7? They've made it pretty clear that basic data (profile info) will be able to be moved without too much trouble but nothing else. Though I've seen mentioned elsewhere that someone will probably build a script that you can buy that will help. |

It only copies the data, old Dolphin 6.1.6 installation is stayed intact. So it is possible to try migration from the scratch if something went wrong. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |

I know is says from 6.1.6, but I am going to try it on my 6.1.4 version just to see. I never really saw any valid reason in upgrading to 6.1.6. And since my site was modded, I would have lost alot anyway. Nothing to see here |
Well, the data migration tool doesn't work for 6.1.4 (at least not for profiles - all I tested). Does this mean that I have to upgrade to 6.1.5, then 6.1.6 to get the migration to work or will there be an enhancement to all you to "choose" which version you have? There are still alot of 6.1.4's out there. Error I got while trying to migrate profiles: Database error. Cannot update profiles in the database.

It is tested with Dolphin 6.1.6, most probably it will work with Dolphin 6.1.5, but not sure about 6.1.4. All these compatibilities will be announced after this module will be completed and tested. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
Well, I tried to use it, but it seems to take a long long time, still the message "in progress" Does it realy take that long???? |
It didnt take that long when trying to migrate about 50 member's profiles. I would say I got the error approx. 10-15 minutes after I checked it. I would suggest trying to migrate 1 area at a time, just in case something goes wrong or it gets hung up. It should email you when the migration is complete. How many members are you trying to migrate and are you doing all areas (profile, photos, videos, etc.) at the same time? Nothing to see here |
Zarcon - are you saying you got it to work? |
Well, since I am running 6.1.4, I wouldn't say I got it to "work", but I did get it to display an error. So yes, When I started the migration for profiles, it said- Profiles "In Process" After about 10 minutes or so, it said - Profiles "Error Processing" - or something like that. The error is displayed was: Database error. Cannot update profiles in the database. So I guess you could say I got it to "try" :) Nothing to see here |
anything new on this? ... or other modules or options ? |
I have tested this a few times now, with very little success. I have a live site that is running on Dolphin 6.1.6 with just under 6,000 members, and I installed 7 Beta in a sub/test file on the same server. I configured the migration module successfully. I ran the migration module: 1) Ads migration - success (however, my live site has no ads, because I don't have this feature active.) 2) Profiles - Failed. Very generic error message simply telling me that it did not work. 3) Photos - Success (but this one has me scratching my head. It says that it DID complete the photo migration successfully, however I can not find the photos or the photo table data anywhere in the new Beta area). I have checked the media, flash, modules/photos areas. All are empty. I checked all the tables and no data has migrated. After trying this several times, I gave up. I wrote my own php/mysql script to migrate the DATA portion from the live table to the Beta tables. This worked fine, and all of my members data shows migrated, and profiles active. But the photos and media file . . . that's something else. I don't know how to get the thousands of photos moved, and resized so that default pics automatically become avatar pics during the migration. This is going to really suck . . . If, after I migrate my members, I will be left with a site full of 6,000 avatars as members. NOBODY will ever join, if they visit my site for the first time, and it's nothing but avatars. Also, I could certainly email all 6,000 members and ask them to log in . . . and provide them with a 12 paragraph tutorial on how to edit their photos to become their main avatar . . . . Realistically, what needs to happen is: During the migration, all photos marked as primary, should be copied and resized for avatars, and then appropriately updated in the photos table of Beta. Problem is you can not auto-crop and get great results. |
The avatars thing is a disaster - it ruined the program. MichalSwiss had it right when he said Boonex should just automatically use a small version of the main photo as the avatar. They could still leave the "set avatar" program in there if they want, but it should be an option. I have been unsuccessful in getting this into trac, Rob |
Don't waste your time on trying to migrate data from d6 to d7, it is just not possible at this time. They will work on that part later after d7 rc1 is out. You possess an intuitive intelligence so powerful it can help you heal, and relieve stress. |
