Displaying Latest Visitors

Ok. I have an idea, or more like a mod if someone could be talked into creating it. It's not much but would be a good addition to make the site more active. I personally think it should be a default setup for this particular issue.

I hate looking at the same people in the members list each time I log on. I think it's setup wrong. As it stands right now, you have three choices. You can either stare at the latest people to sign up (which never changes if signups are in a lag), or you can stare at the top users (which changes even less), or you can stare at who's actually online.

None of those choices suit me at all. Here's what I would like to see.

I think each new person that logs on should be put in the top left position and the person on the bottom right should drop off to make room. It shouldn't matter if they are online or not. By doing this, each time someone logs on, even if they do it several times a day, will see a new spread of members in the page. This gives the look that people are coming and going on the site all the time. The way it is now, if a new member doesn't sign up, the people (and their avatars) never changes and it makes the site look stagnant.

Like this:

stagnant member list

The only caveat would be a member that logs back in before his name has been pushed off. The script should probably be written to skip over someone who is already being displayed.

Just a thought. I'd pay $10 bucks for this 'adjustment'

PS: The initial default display does say 'Latest' That could stand for 'Latest to log on'

I think it's a terrific idea!

This is pretty cool. Maybe it could be adjusted to replace the randomly selected users with images to latest users online with images? I think people that visit the site like seeing themselves on the page, not a bunch of people that never show up. I got a message into DeeEem to see his demo but I like your setup if it could be adjusted. Making sure there is a photo to display is something I hadn't thought of and it makes perfect sense. Great mod...

LOL! Checking now ....

After much thought, I think Prolaznik's idea is better than mine. Both of our ideas are better than Boonex's (lol, just had to throw that in there).

By using random online members with photos after the logged in members with photos, it will give the impression of more people visiting the site. If we do it my way, although better than the default, you will still be stuck on a small group of people that religiously log in every day and never see the ones that only log in a couple time a month or a couple times a year.

If you have a very high traffic, high membership site, then DeeEem's mod will work just as well and might even be a little better. It all comes down to how heavily the site is used.

The perfect mod would have an admin panel and allow you to switch between several different configurations allowing you to pick the one that best suits your specific needs.

Prolaznik's mod is great - and that is exactly what it does - it makes smaller sites look more active, and is infinitely more honest then those "fake profile" mods - you can see it on my site at http://www.caltrade.com/community.

I do like the other idea also though- DeeEmm - can your mod be used in conjunction with this -  i.e. have both blocks on the same page?

I thought we weren't supposed to post links back to our own communities in here unless it was for a specific trouble shooting issue.  Not really a great idea to post a link just to show off a mod.

Great mod overall and awesome idea for helping get rid of one of the redundate issues with the sites.

What the hell is your problem, are you stalking me you freaking creep.  People post links all the time here.  Isn't you hate mail and your malware attacks enough jerk - why don't you get a life.

@Magnussoft - I don't initiate any of this - I only respond.  I can make he most innocent comment like on this thread when all I said was "I agree" and tried to help a member here with some knowledge I have - http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/?action=goto&my_threads=1#topic/how-to-restrict-access-to-new-page-.htm and he will be all over it.   It was about two hours after that one that he sent out his malware crap.  There is a reason so many people hate him here - it is not just me.

There are time when you merely respond, and times when you are the one that starts it. I have been watching over this community even longer than I have been a member, and even then, one thing that has stood out has been the two of you feuding like children over the most trivial matters.

And as for your claims of an email containing malware, I have still yet to see any evidence of it existing beyond your own words. Either provide the proof, or stop parading it like it's the smoking gun. Also, if you do finally wish to send me a copy, remember that it's impossible for myself to get malware, unless you feel like programming the first one in history for the Be Operating System.

I don't need to give you "evidence", Magnussoft - I forwarded the email and the list of other email addresses who got it to Boonex - if they want to put up with that kind of crap here that is their business.  I do NOT initiate attacks - you are wrong about that - I only respond and will keep doing so.  I am here for only two reasons - to get technical support and to give it when I can.  I have no idea why he is here, but I can tell you you are also completely wrong when you say this has been going on for a long time between me and him.   He has MANY, MANY similar disputes with others here - you are probably thinking of one of them.  I have always avoided him as much as I can because I have seen him doing this so frequently, but this one started about a six weeks ago when he wouldn't stop insisting that the private labeled software he is selling would solve the predefined list problem we are having - I told him I had no interest in it and that is when the attacks here, the hate mail and now the malware started.   If you do a search on his handle, on Google, you will find this post by someone - I have no idea who, but the story is almost exactly what happened to me, except that he didn't use the name "twisted Dolphin".    You are apparently confusing the recent attacks on me with the DOZENS he has done to others - some of them have gotten sick of it and left.

Again, I am here only for technical support and to give it when I can - but sometimes someone needs to stand up to people like this or they just keep doing it.

I went to the Boonex.com forum asking my questions. I was befriended by a guy who goes by the name of 'Mydatery'  I came across him completely by accident. He initiated the contact me asking me how I new about his secret software that no one was supposed to know anything about??? I had no clue what he was talking about. He pretended like he was helping me with the problems I was having using the Dolphin 6 software. This is when he started pushing his software he calls "Twisted Dolphin" on me. It looked like crap and could not believe something that someone would even try to push something like this. I told him I wasn't interested and that I didn't like the appearance. He didn't like my comments and now he also spams my website, email, yahoo without my permission. He is slandering me by calling me stupid. Can you believe this type of behavior would come from a representative of Boonex. I contact Boonex to tell them to have there Bull dog back off and he still keeps coming. I wish something would be done about this company thieves. If you see this scam artists face. My suggestion would be to run like hell!!!

@Prolaznik - sorry for the digression, but I did need to respond to that.   Putting online members first is a great idea - I'll update as soon as I get the chance.   Boonex should just make this part of the product, if you are willing to donate it.  I think it enhances every site that uses it.
