Do you think it is about time that RAY started using RTMFP

As the topic states Do you think it is about time that RAY started using RTMFP instead of RMS?

Here is a bit more info about RTMFP http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/rtmfp_faq/

RMS stands for Ray Media Server, and is based on Red5, an open-source media server for Adobe Flash. Basically, you won't see support for anything new unless Red5 also supports it.

Thats the hole point nathan you dont need red5 or anyother server with RTMFP thier is no need for any server of any kind if they use the new RTMFP. have a read of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Media_Flow_Protocol

All that is needed for webcam and microphone streeming is RTMFP.

and an end user that has flash player installed.

Thats where your incorrect. RTMFP still requires a server to establish the initial connection. Once done, all communication is P2P

The link you provided even states this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Media_Flow_Protocol

The principle difference is how the protocols communicate over the network. RTMFP is based on User Datagram Protocol (UDP), whereas RTMP is based on Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). UDP‐based protocols have some specific advantages over TCP‐based protocols when delivering live streaming media, such as decreased latency and overhead, and greater tolerance for dropped/missing packets, at the cost of decreased reliability. Unlike RTMP, RTMFP also supports sending data directly from one Adobe Flash Player to another, without going through a server. A server‐side connection will always be required to establish the initial connection between the end‐users and can be used to provide server‐side data execution or gateways into other systems. The user of a Flash Media Server will also be required to authorize network address lookup and NAT traversal services for the clients to prevent Flash Player from being used in an unmanaged way.

So a Cirrus server will be needed to use RTMFP http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cirrus/
