I do not want Forum on my site, but i do want Groups.
Do I understand groups correctly; they are ways for members to start a discussion that others can join in. Does it need to have forum? Or can I just have Groups without the Forum?
Please advise.

Just remove Forums it from modules or from navigation menu. What's that falling? its a bird, its a plane, oh wait its Facebook |
Just remove Forums it from modules or from navigation menu. The groups module requires the forum module, meaning you can't remove one without removing the other.
@OP: I recommend you search the forums for ways to hide the presence of modules within other modules, such as forums in groups. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
You can then just go to navigation menu and remove the blocks What's that falling? its a bird, its a plane, oh wait its Facebook |
So is it as simple as going into Menu Builder and removing the blocks from there? The other place where it also shows and everything shows is in the Menu Bar - Profile. I know that in one my posts ShasaE directed me to remove it from there via phpmyadmin, but the question I had was if you do that how do you put it back in in the future if you need it? Any help with this would be most beneficial. Kindly advise. |
If you want to put it back in the future then the best bet is to remove it from the navigation menu or any other menu its attached to. The problem lies in the Member Menu Bar (This strip of menu - lies right at top or bottom of screen); that is where it still shows up in the profile. So all the options show up there. You can remove them from the Main Tab Menu in the Menu Builder Blocks, but how do you get rid of it from the Member Menu Bar - Profile? That is the question. I could not find anyway to do it. Like I said I was told I had to remove it from the DB. If that is the case then how do you put it back in later on (if needed)? The next question is; do you need the forum for the members to use group? Can they still form groups and chat about their own subjects? Or do they need the forum to discuss? |
The only way I've found to remove things from the member menu's sub menus is to remove the main item from view. So you'd lose profiles from the member menu entirely. Not the best fix, but if profiles are in the main menu then profile access is still there.
The forums are where most discussions take place in our groups, but there is also the Comment section which I guess you could use exclusively for discussions. Although I don't know that you can really remove the groups' forums entirely so it might be a moot point. |

It is not only the forum so much. it is video from the Members Menu Bar, Photos, etc that I wish to remove. I could really leave the Forum for the Groups only if you think that is where a lot of discussion takes place. More importantly I just wish to know how to remove any one of those modules from the Profile on the Member Menu Bar. So tell me where do I remove the Main Item from? |

Yes, I checked that, thanks so much. That only allows me to remove the entire profile from the menu bar, not specifically video or other portions. So it is a preference to have profile on the bar, but within profile to remove certain modules such as video, photo, etc. Any ideas? |
