I have just downloaded Dolphin 6.1.6 and have done some minor changes ive added games and youtube, i was readng the post on Dolphin 7 and am unsure if i should still do work on my current version, till i upgrade to 7(when it comes out) as im not sure if my current work will stay or be replaced when i change from 6 to7.
How long are we looking at before 7 is available??? (not the display)
Will i lose what i have done currently on 6 when i install 7?
Im just asking so i know if i should continue on working on my dolphin 6 (lastest version)
Any advice would be appreciated at this point.
Thankyou

D7 when finally released will 'probably' include a D6 to D7 upgrade patch. Currently ALPHA was released to allow some of us GEEKs to review and provide some insight to the directions and functionaility which is ultimately going to be D7. One of the biggest expanisions in D7 is Modules and how they help scale a Smart Community Builder. With the expansion of Modules, developers, designers have more flexiability and capability of easier expansion/customization. |
Thankyou for that. i guess it would have to other wise everyone would have to shut down and restart their sites from scratch.
No news on month at least for D7????

Well if I was a betting man...
Dolphin's Birthday is September ;)
|
same with me, i'm waitingfor D7 beta .... => http://friends.smansakra.sch.id => friends community based dolphin 7 |
If I was a betting ...
Christmas (December) Release for v1 of D7 & D8 will follow much quicker due to D7 not being everything we are all expecting judging from the Alpha code between whats new, whats old and what is not there (there is only so many ways a jigsaw piece will fit).

IT'S TOO LONG ! , i have just installed it on my own unity , there is many error and unfunctioning modules there, i'm waiting for a dolphin 7 beta release but may be it will take so long.

what i know is this http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/roadmap , oh dolphin 7b 28% finished, huh, this must be very long time to get the beta code => http://friends.smansakra.sch.id => friends community based dolphin 7 |
Ya it does say 28% but is that D7 v1 or D7 v1.2 (b) !?!
I based my previous post from the code itself and it would actually be around a third of the way there but I hope some miracle coding is going to happen so it is a rewrite not a write over. Time will tell.. June the 20th is 2 days from now, lets see if there is a secret beta thats going to be released

Judging by the state of the code and the amount of bugs present in what was released last week, I second the September guess for a stable beta.
Apparently there are a ton of issues rising from an attempt to integrate old modules into a partially rewritten setup. My guess is the old modules are harder to tame into a coherent new layer than Boonex had originally assumed.

I double 2nd Mr Code's educated guess for a Sept early beta! haha |

Of course Poseidon is supposed to be the core for D8, and Poseidon is estimated for March 2010... Even 6.x is still being patched and finalized, and I imagine all the derived code present in D7 will need to be reworked in bug areas too.
Rigging a fast D8 release to make up for D7 expectations would be nothing short of a Windows ME spectacle, so one hopes D8 will run off a clean new core, that will also be a bit more light-weight than D7.
