Hello, I'm new to Unity and Dolphin 7. I have a GoDaddy Unlimited Hosting plan that uses a shared server (not dedicated). I'm trying to install Dolphin 7 at the following domain: http://www.hothalogirls.com . This is not the 'primary' domain on the account and it resides in a folder: public_html/hothalogirls/ not: public_html/ (which is where the files for the primary domain are located. I created a MySQL database and started installing Dolphin 7. I got to the 'Config' section of the installation (where you put in the Database information) and here is what I entered/left blank:
SQL file: ./sql/v70.sql (found)
Database host namve: localhost
Database host port #: ______ (left it blank)
Database socket path: ______ (left it blank)
Database name: hothalogirls (the name I specified when setting up the MySQL database)
Database user: hothalogirls (the user I specified when setting up the MySQL database)
Database password: ********** (the password I specified when setting up the MySQL database)
When I press 'NEXT' it gives me this error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'. I contacted GoDaddy customer support and he said that he didn't think I could use Dolphin 7 with a shared server, he said I had to get a dedicated one. He said that they store the MySQL databases on a different server (I think he meant a different server than the server where my site files where), and that they only way to get the needed 'socket' path that Dolphin 7 installation was asking for was to have root access (which is given when you get a dedicated server).
I was hoping that there was someone else on this forum that is using GoDaddy (non dedicated servers) that has successfully installed Dolphin 7. And if not then does anyone know how painful it would be to switch hosting? I've only had my account for 2-3 weeks? Would it cost me a but load of money? What other hosting service should I use?
Please note that I'm not an 'expert' on backend web design so please refrain from using complete terms and references and please explain!
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

GoDaddy is infamous for causing problems with this script. There was another topic here describing the same issue; I'll look for it. In the mean time, check the proper connection information for database connections, along with your database credentials to make sure they are correct. @Magnussoft I've read about 4 different topics about problems with GoDaddy here on the forum (a few of which you were a part of) but none of them talked about the 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' error I'm getting.
I don't know what you mean by 'proper connection information for database connections', but I did make sure my 'credentials' where right (username/password). I also tried deleting the database and making another one (with different credentials) but still got the same error.

Apologies, it was a topic for BlueHost. Anyways, did you also make sure that when creating the database and user that you linked them with the proper permissions?

When creating the database in the GoDaddy Host Manager it did not ask me to set permissions. I opened the phpMyAdmin for the database to see if I could set/change the permissions but I don't know where to find the permissions, how can I change them/view them?

You can't use 'localhost' if the mysql server is on a different machine. Just ask them what the proper database host name is. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Thanks for the illustration but what your showing me is from cPanel correct? GoDaddy does not use cPanel (I wish they did) they use their own 'Hosting Manager'. I'm gonna call customer support again and ask about the permissions.

Okay thanks for the suggestion, I'll give them a call.

Does your mother know you use GoDaddy?

Good news, and bad news. I got past the place I was previously stuck by changing the host name from localhost to the proper name (THANKS houstonlively!!!!)
I finished up the installation and on the last step (or maybe it was the 2nd to last I don't remember). It shows this error:
Warning: require_once(/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/inc/security.inc.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/hothalogirls/inc/header.inc.php on line 172

The fact that you smiled at that either means you are joking, or you are one seriously f***ed-up Schindler with a list.

Wow... that looks pretty ominous. I'd go get a six pack and get drunk if I were you.

Haha, I'm not 21, so I'll pass.
I'm going to try and reupload the dolphin 7 files and delete/create a new database and start all over. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far, I've given you all a +1

Anyway.... those errors mean you specified the root directory path incorrectly during installation. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Create a file called rootpath.php and
put the following line in it:
<?php echo $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']; ?>
Upload it to the web root on your server and then go to the file in your browser.
It will show you what the correct path should be. Make sure you have a trailing slash when you enter it during installation.

I did what you said and i got the following path '/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html' do I need to delete all the dolphin 7 files on my server and the database? and where do I put this path when installing it?

I deleted the database I was using and made a new one. I deleted the dolphin 7 files and reuploaded them. Now I'm ready for a 'fresh' install. The path that you had me get with '<?php echo $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']; ?>' gave me this path: /var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/
This was the path that Dolphin 7 auto added when I was installing. So I'm pretty sure I didn't specify the root directory wrong.

Very strange..... that's usually what it means.
If you have nothing better to do.....
$dir['root'] = " /var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/"; <------- This line will be ccreated in /inc/header.inc.php
instead of: /var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/
Try: /home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/
I have no experience with Godaddy hosting, but I think that's worth a try.

@houstonlively
I tried: /home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/ but it is still not working.
Should I be deleting and reuploading the dolphin 7 files and deleting and remaking the database everytime I try a new installation setting? Like should I delete the inc folder and the install folder and reupload them every time?
Also should I be allowing 'Direct Database Access' when making the data base? Be default it is set to No in GoDaddy but I can change it to 'yes'.
|
no need for direct db access in folder inc/ delete file header.inc.php & re-upload the installation folder then run the installation script again if you fail to install it PM me here ill help you out |
*FIXED*
I finally found a fix for the:
Warning: require_once(/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/inc/security.inc.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/hothalogirls/inc/header.inc.php on line 172
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require-once]: Failed opening required '/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/dranker/html/inc/security.inc.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/hothalogirls/inc/header.inc.php on line 172
error.
Basically in the inc/header.inc.php file the on line 39 you'll find $dir['root'] or just search for it (may be on different line for different version). Mine was default set to = "/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/"; which is the root directory of a different domain on the same server. The domain I was trying to install Dolphin 7 was in a sub directory /hothalogirls so I just added it to the end of the path giving me:
/var/chroot/home/content/d/e/r/deranker/html/hothalogirls/
This error occurred because I didn't install Dolphin 7 in my servers 'root' directory, instead I was installing it in my domains 'root' directory.
THANKS TO @houstonlively FOR ALL THE HELP!
