Dolphin 7 Headaches

I am now at the point of pulling Dolphin 7 out and throwing it in the Bin

Because at the moment that is where it belongs.

I have tried and tried and tried to get videos to upload without ny success

I have tried and tried to get mass mailer to work without any success

messages just sit in a queue and it will only add 5 mails to the queue ata time

I have all my cron jobs correct and these have been checked by my ISp on the server

I have ffmpeg chmod correctly

But when I look on the server the vids show as a yelow folder and in binary mode

There were never any of these problems with 6.1.6

So what is going on and why arnt these issues getting resolved as I have seen on many different forums a lot of people are having these issues

I went through the same thing until I finally realized that ALL of my issues had to do with server configuration.

Who is your ISP? (I mean, host)

Are you on a shared environment or are you using a VPS or Dedicated server?

I have used the mass mailer in mine and all my trouble there came down to server configuration. I just successfully sent out 2000 emails to my members.

5 emails to the queue at a time is a specific setting. I had to change mine

With the ffmpeg, make sure your server allows exe execution in the php configuration

Another Question: Are you running a 6.x.x dolphin which was upgrade to D7?

I have had some experience with Arvixe's shared web hosting environments. Their cron jobs tend to have hissy-fits and refuse to work every once in awhile. Try different configurations of your cron job, and ensure it is set to run every minute (though, do this just for testing purposes, then set it to something sane). The issue with Arvixe, is that its cron jobs tend to be delayed in running, some times to a long period of time. DosDawg put it best to me in a private chat (and allow me to paraphrase it): "they have cron jobs firing every... ...minute." The load from all the cron jobs being run can cause quite a few issues.

Arvixe doesn't like to advertise it allot, but their shared web hosting packages are designed for Dolphin web sites that get as much as twenty visitors a month, and little more than that. Now, how does that equal the amount of resources that are blasted-through by some people's reports? I can only imagine it is because they do not have only a few web hosting accounts on each server, but that they try and fill them-up to until they can no longer get away with it.

And therein lies your entire problem .....

Can anyone suggest a good hosting company that allows adult websites

and hosts Dolphin 7 without all the nightmare hickups

Well, I spent a couple of hours with an online helper at Arvixe and it couldnt be sorted, but I had an email this morning from their admin that they had reset the cron server which apparantly was causing the problem. And guess what videos are going up and mass mail is going out. So if you have this problem too, ask your host to reset the server and see if that helps. One thing I cant figure out is, when I write a mail in Mass Mailer and submit it, it says its added 5 to the queue, why only 5, If I hit the button again it adds another 6 or seven to the queue. I cant check with everyone if they all got the message. Is Mass Mailer just sending 6 mails or is it sending mail to all members ? Cheers for the help.

I highly recommend MojoHost.  I have D7 running on a dedicated box with them, and it's been nothing but enjoyable now that I'm with a host who has extensive Dolphin experience, and just really knows their stuff when it comes to optimal server configuration.  My site is fast, and for the most part error-free so far...

Have you seen the price of Mojo Hosting.

I certainly will not pay any of those amounts to host a website

Arvixe I pay about $7 a month, I certainly wont pay $250-$600 a month with Mojo

I have Arvixe but one of the business plans. My site has over 800 users and runs quite well. You can upgrade your package with them and it will put you back 44 a month.  Short of that you would have to run on either a VPS or dedicated machine.  Both are going to run you more than 44 a month.  Good luck!

The problem is that people wants to have top off the Bill software but don't want to pay a normal prize for a server. 
On shared servers you have restrictions you have to live with. :) :)

Well, yes, I have, I host there, and pay a good amount for hosting. It's the best money I spend a month for my site.  If you're serious about running a site for business, a hosting budget that allows you to not have to worry about speed, security, data loss, and 100 other things is just common sense.  I won't get in to specifics, but i pay a few hundred dollars a month with Mojo, and it's the best decision I have ever made when it came to putting this script somewhere that I could sleep at night :)

I have an issue with the massmailer in that the emails just sit in the queue forever.

It appears from the chatter about this, that the issue is related to cron jobs.

What are the settings that should be used?
