Dolphin Stuck In The Mud

I am the proud new owner of Dolphin 7.01 on my website...

But when i created my profile, it doesn't show up when i click on it...

Instead it goes to an error 404...

was trying to use this to replace a social network on Ning (which is very easy to use)...

couldn't get the Unity Upgrade to take my $5...

so couldn't get through to ANY help or support...

today it took my $5, so i at least get this far..

I have generated a "free" license, but don't know how to apply it to my software, maybe this is part of the problem?

there is no end to those who would help "for a fee", but you would think there would be at least basic support to get things going...

Is boonex really based in krygistan?   It says Australian on the home page...

anyone out there care to throw me a bone here?

i have limited time and patience to work on something if it's going nowhere...

You would think "the best social network software on earth" would be stunningly functional...

Maybe i am a little slow?

The licence has nothing to do with the function of dolphin. Free or paid. The only difference are the boonex ads.

404 problems are a hosting issue. Missing .htaccess file, mod_rewrite not active on server, ect.

A search for 404 error in the forums here will get you tons of info on the subject.

As with any scripts, it will take a little time to figure out the process's. I personally would not give Boonex a penny for this software, but thats my opinion.

This will not be simple, nor take "no time." The process is full of options and little problems when changing things, much less the bugs. Thank god for that search button. Learn how to use it, and be more thorough on your questions. PM me, I am no pro, but I can help with the basics that I see begginers get stuck with.

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.

The problem i am having is that when i create a new user it does not create a file for that user, everything else seems to work fine (as far as i can tell), but when i click on the new user it comes up 404 file error...

i am using one of the hosts recommended by Boonex...

Meanwhile the only problem i have with the current home of my social network is they want $20 a month to keep it going, which by now seems only a small inconvenience...

the advantage being, it ALREADY works fine, and we are ALREADY there...

TallyHo Ning :-)

ok on this one veggie, you will need to check to see if your .htaccess which contains your mod_rewrite source was transferred up to the server when you uploaded the files.

if you do not see the .htaccess file, you can look in your dolphin folder on your local drive and see if its there, and if it is  which it should be, just upload it to your server via FTP.

the 404 is due to permalinks or SEO compatible uri, and mod_rewrite controls that on the server, and needs the .htaccess file.

$20 a month is a drop in the ocean compared to what you will spend running Dolphin.

Not only that, but any web hosting for Dolphin that costs less than $20.00/month is simply insufficient (and that price alone is cutting it close to the wire). Nickel hosts cannot run Dolphin, despite the claims BoonEx and their affiliates like to make. The script is too resource-hungry for their over-packed, under-powered shared servers.
