have you done the same test for other sites?

boonex. results are 184ms http://tools.pingdom.com/ping/?target=boonex.us&o=2&id=5904872

test your site on http://www.gtmetrix.com

your results are here: http://gtmetrix.com/compare/Pz5Cl4Gw/0rAvh6S8

I see right off your sites index page is 1.17MB in size.. try reducing the size of promo images and or other blocks loading on the home page.

[edit] also enable gzip on server

Have you tried any of this?

Some suggestions,

  • less ads on index page; you have five ads on index page
  • use a splash page
  • reduce enabled viewing of blocks for guest on index page
  • your news feed has to load, this is a considerable time consumer, as well as
  • your blogs are enabled
  • your spy is set for guest, this is another slow down, the database has to read all these updates
  • forums have to feed to index
  • the share toolbar at the bottom also takes time to load..

you have news, blogs, forums and spy all pulling info from your database, all this is information that's consuming your load times

[edit] and your template could be a culprit, try switching the site to the default template UNI, clear all caches  manually, (leave the .htaccess file in /cache) and try testing the site speed again.

You can enable it by deflate. You can also optimize your server software for better performance. This optimization has to be done as per your site's traffic and resource usage.
