Dolphin needs dedicated Server

Dolphin needs dedicated Server,  farce & cheapness of hosting servers

this is what i have learnt from my experience...

there are a list of hosting service providers out there mentioned in this website saying that they will host your dolphin script for few dollars in shared hosting with unlimited space blah blah blah...

you purchase it and run your dolphin after that they bombard your dolphin website with fake ids or spammers joining at least 30 t0 100 a day .

Than suddenly one day u will see your website not opening u ask your host they will say your u need to upgrade to a higher level server a shared hosting won't work....

since u have spent a lot already on the website with modules and boonex script u feel ok let me upgrade to VPS once u pay for VPS you website will be live again and u will be happy againWink.

it will be fine for 4 to 5 months.

Than you will notice that your website is not opening from time to time u will contact your host to keep it online...

they will say server refreshed website opening.

this will go on for a month then they will say u need to increase memory.

SO UPGRADE AGAIN....

after u spend some more u upgrade again....this will go on till ultimately u have to buy a dedicated server.....

this is how the hosting for dolphin scripts works.

and all the while your website has been unnecessarily being joined by these fake spammers who are nothing but most probably employed by the hosting servers... though i don't have proof of it but i suspect it.

as your website is not on any major search engine nor on any big league yet  have a dedicated server...

and those in the know how about websites and programming look at you and your state and cant stop laughing at your state as u have been by that time spent a lot of money for an absolute waste.

an HTML website could have made u some google adsense dollars and a good ranking in search engines.

so BEWARE ALL!

anyone before purchasing dolphin keep this in mind. if u have the dollars to maintain a dedicated server then only install a dolphin script or else just leave it alone.

is this for real!

Do hosting providers actually conspire to do this. Ummmm....very interesting situation.

I wonder if there is truth to this?

I had the basic site installed, no activity, nothing going on as my developers were designing the splash and template and a couple of mods.

There was no spamming activity, cause there was nothing on the site of substance. Then we installed the splash and template...lo and behold they were coming in droves...the spammers well at least 10 to 15 a day.

So i wonder......ummmmmm......I wonder......if what he says has any truth to it.

'Unlimited' hosting has been discussed here many many many times. I would have to agree that some companies do seem to lure you in with the good 'ol 4.95 unlimited hosting (for example). However, if you do not read the agreement, you would never know that it didnt include unlimited CPU Usage.

Some companies can try running hundreds of site on 1 server and with Dolphin being somewhat of a resource hog, the resources on the server start to peak. Of course they are going to tell you to upgrade. You have to figure, if they can point out in the agreement that they have the right to suspend your account due to 'resource' issues, then what are you going to do? Well, you can upgrade..You can have a site that no longer works.. or you can cancel your account and move on.

I will have to disagree and say that Dolphin does NOT require a dedicated server to function well. I have used shared hosting since I became a member of Unity and never had a problem. Granite, I definitely do not pay a couple bucks month for hosting, so I cannot say for those type of hosts. But there are shared hosting packages out there that will handle Dolphin with no problems. Get ready to spend about $30 a month for a good one though.

Nothing to see here

Managing your own dolphin site requires that you do just that. They provide the script, you MUST do the work. I am so sick of hearing this complaint.

Dolphin is not for the sissies. It is for thiose that want something a little special and are willing to work for it. I have over 2 years on mine and I have NEVER been shut down for the problems you quote because I made sure to do my due diligence in using good strategies to protect myself and my members.

If you want, I can call you a whaaaaaaambulance?

Or you can start here, solve your spam problem first, then read this forum regularly to learn what you can do with Dolphin.

I go through Hostupon and have NEVER had a problem like that.  I pay $19.95 a month and have unlimited everything and they help you setup dolphin for free.  Take care of your problem.

I've seen lots of rediculous accusations here but this one takes the cake. I don't even know where to start.

First if you have a VPS or dedicated server you will still get all the spammers if you don't take steps to stop them. It has nothing to do with shared hosting.

Second you can sign up for Analytics and see exactly how the spammers find your site. They search for urls or terms they know are used by Dolphin. If someone was paying them to post to your site they wouldn't have to search for it.

Third you can get a VPS for $20 a month and never go over any limits or be told you need to upgrade.

India and Asia are full of companies that make a living from posting spam, it's a fact of life.. but it has nothing to do with your hosting provider.

I can make out from the replies baring one all are hosting service providers postings to my post.

see i am not here for argument nor do i need to prove my point here...

all i have stated is bare truth and nothing but the truth.

this is what i am facing and this is what i want innocent people to know before  installing dolphin.

can any one tell me.....

WHY WOULD SPAMMERS KEEP OPENING ACCOUNTS IN A WEBSITE WHICH IS NOT EVEN GETTING TWO OR THREE GENUINE VISITORS A DAY.

my website has near zero visitors no search engine ranking yet hundreds of spammers are opening accounts here why and for what purpose....

i have deleted the blog to stop this menace of rubbish posting on topics such as gucci shoes etc

what will anyone gain from it other than the Hosting service providers

Finally your website is seen no where in the internet yet how do the spammers know your website strange if it is not the handy work of spammers employed by your hosting service providers.. something to think aboutSealed

I think you have a conspiracy problem.

i think the first mistake that was made here was not following the developers requirements for hosting dolphin.

but other than that, and yes i am a hosting service provider, but certainly dont want the spammers on the servers either.

however to answer your question, i posted on these forums the search strings that are used for dolphin sites. google indexes your presence, regardless if you have submitted to the search engines or not. in its generic state, you can come up with 9K dolphin sites that have been mauled by the spammers, and precisely has nothing to do with the hosting service provider.

as a solidarity marker on this point, using IIS 7 on a home computer installed dolphin, and the spammers hit the domain. so given that specific scenario, which hosting service provider would you begin to accuse for that action. again it was a default install of dolphin, never submitted to any search engines, was online for less than a week, the only history of the domain was from indexed whois records.

so the conspiracy theory is blown out of the water here, just based on this situation alone.

sorry this has been so problematic for you, but that is the nature of the internet. if you dont want to deal with spam, unplug that modem, and you will never see spam again.

what is unlimited CPU Usage? if this is the reason for dolphin requiring a dedicated server than why is the makers of dolphin not mentioning it in this website in BOLD.

You need to consider there are many flaws with your accusations. First I can run dolphin fine on a VPS server, and guess what? I don't even require email verification. I run a forum on the same server that has lots of traffic ( http://cl.ly/0E1z2v1W2H06320X2Q37 ), and as you can see I have CloudFlare protecting my site. Not one single spam message ever.

Anyways, whatever you are claiming implies you have actual knowledge of what you're talking about... and that clearly isn't the case.

Good use of forum humor, you don't see much of that here. You win 10,000 internets.

When this guy first posted this and I told him he was way off base he sent me a nasty email saying it was MY fault he upgraded to a dedicated server?? I later found out he sent Sky and some other people the same email so I have no idea what his deal is.
