EAccelerator Does Not Work

Many many hours I have wasted trying to get this working. So far, all i have accomplished is driving my host bananas.

You cannot set it up with SuPHP, it is supposed to work if you change to DSO and FastCGI is supposed to be the best setup according to all that I have read and been privy too.

EAccelerator does NOT work in any configuration in 7.06 or 7.07. I can get 7.07 to notice it's installed but it still reports that it is NOT available.

What ticks me off more than anything is the instructions that are provided that tell you to install EAcclerator but gives you NO specifics on it's use!

I also cannot find any useful information it Trac or anywhere else as to what Boonex is doing, or if they are even working on it. A simple "Hey, we know there's an issue and we are working on a solution for 7.08" would keep me from posting this rant.

BTW Boonex, if it's so great, how come Unity doesn't use a cache accelerator?

In latest version of eAccellerator they removed API functions, so it is not possible to use eAccellerator as cache engine, but the eAccllerator itself is most probably working well. I wrote about this here:

http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/TutorialUnderstandingCacheEngines#eAccellerator

But, it is even recommended to not enable cache with some accelerator - because cache files are regular php files they are already cached by accelerator, to make benefit from it even more - you maybe need to increase memory cache size in your php accelerator.

This is true that eAcclerator can not work in suPHP or CGI mode - or even you will make it working in this configuration it will only slow down everything.

PS: BoonEx uses other cache on nginx level.

I've been working on this for a week. You could have popped in and told me this earlier.

In any case, nowhere in your documentation is it really clear that there are issues with Eaccelerator. You may want to update your help files.

I am going to have the boys at HFW reconfigure my server for memcache and APC and we'll see how that works out. Thanks for the guidance (even if it was a little late).

Is there ongoing development to help us users make the best use of the different ways to speed up our sites? Maybe you can do a new blog post on the current ways that work with Dolphin for managing the cache.

I've answered after 30 minutes after you ask - is this too late !?

I've updated documentation to make it clearer.

As for the speed-up docs, please refer to:

LOL, 30 minutes? Better do a search on this problem. I just started a new thread because no one was answering the old one.

The Audit script just tells you it's not  working

The hosting server recommendations doc is unclear...

Have no idea what Nginx is

Tutorial opn caching types tells you that eaccelerator is the best choice

The tutorial on caching types was written by a geek for geeks.

If you updated the docs, then that's a step in the right direction. Why do you even bring up eaccelerator in your docs when you know it doesn't work?

It works as php accelerator, it is not working as cache engine. These are different things. But since cache files are php files they are already cached by php accelerator - so the best option here is to left file based cache engine. This is described in the docs. If the docs are too tech for you, it is better to ask someone to do this optimisation for you.

Do you really want me to dissect your docs line by line and compare them to your use of English?

This is not a concept I can't grasp if it's properly (and clearly) explained to me in the first place.
