Edit Profile Photo

I'm trying to add "ProfilePhoto" system-type profile field into "Owner Edit Profile" form. I have this field for "Join Form" but I got to allow my users to edit their profile photo after they registered. I don't see any way of doing this through admin interface. ProfilePhoto field is not available in Inactive Items list. It's not possible to add system-type field.

The next thing I did I went to the database and open "sys_profile_fields" table and look up "ProfilePhoto" field. JoinBlock & JoinOrder columns have already values for this field so logically I thought I need to enter some values on EditOwnBlock & EditOwnOrder columns. I entered the correct block number and order number but nothing happened. ProfilePhoto still unavailable in "Owner Edit Profile" form editor.

I'll appreciate any help to this problem.

Sigh....is there anybody have answer for this? Editing profile photo is a very basic feature in social network. I can't believe I can't get this to work. I asked my agent one week ago and my agent has asked the developer. They don't seems to know the answer. Unbelievable. I hope I don't have to give up this software. I mean I like to feature set and the interface but it has a lot rough edges. The fancy admin UI doesn't help much and the documentation is limited.

Perhaps i am not understanding what you're trying to do here, or perhaps you have profile photo confused with what dolphin calls the avatar.

The avatar is the small thumbnail photo that appears throughout most of the site. Left side of promo area after logon. The small thumbnail in the shoutbox and forums, ect.

The avatar can be edited and set from the members dashboard. Just click the avatar link.

Dolphin does not really have a default profile photo but rather a profile photos section. Which is really just a photo album containing photos. The default photo album will contain the photo that was uploaded during sign-up and appears on the members profile as the large photo in the upper left.

The photos in the default photo album can be edited also. From in the profile page click on the photos sub menu item. More photos can be added or existing ones removed.

So i guess your going to need to be more specific because i don't see an issue with an inability to edit either the avatar or the photos.

From my perspective, profile photos vs avatars are confusing. A summary:

  • a profile photo can be uploaded during join but it is not set as your avatar, even though most people would probably assume uploading a something called a profile photo uploaded during join would serve as an avatar (in Dolphin terminology)
  • to create an avatar you can either:
  1. upload it from the Avatar tab *or*
  2. upload a photo to your personal photo album and click Set as Avatar. Profile photos uploaded during join (see above) can also be Set as Avatar.
  • to further complicate things, when creating an avatar using either of the methods in the previous step, the avatar file can be copied to your personal photo album by checking Copy to profile photos album. If a photo was copied to your personal photo when creating the avatar, in theory, you can make make many avatars from the same profile photo and check Copy to profile photos album every time, though the photo isn't recopied to the album. I would consider this a bug, or at least misleading.

How could this be improved/simplified?

  • Avatars could be uploaded during join only
  • Profile photos could be uploaded after joining only
  • Avatars could still be created from profile photos using Set to Avatar
  • Avatar photos should not be copyable to profile photo albums to avoid them being publicly visible

This could have not been stated better!

Boonex! Please listen to this.

This is very confusing to members and other site owners; one of the most mis-understood things.

Ok so what if we did something like this:

- Made the ProfilePhoto field from the join form "Inactive"

- Left the check in the checkbox on the "Add New Avatar Page" But call it "Add / Change Profile Image"

- Figure out a way where when someone picks an Avatar instead of uploading an image it does not get moved to the profile photos album

This would force the user to upload their Profile Image or select their Avatar from the second page of join process only. If they want to change it after they join fine go back to Profile Image page (Which Boonex calls Avatar) of their profile and change it? Now the profile image is only being added or changed once in one place.

Hi, Were you viewing one of your own photos within the photo view page? If so within the actions block should be a "Set As Avatar" button. You need to be viewing one of your own photos to see the button. Good luck.

This is just a total mess - what a terrible design.  What is happening now is that after registration sometimes the avatar gets set correctly, but usually not, but then no profile photo ever gets set.  It seems that all users can do - if they are lucky enough to find it - is to use the "view profile" function, and then click on the small new photo link there.  Then pick from four different "upload" methods to finally get their profile photo.  I was hoping there was at least an "upload profile photo" menu item to make it a bit easier on the users, but I couldn't find even that.  Does anyone have any suggestions on workarounds so that this works in the real world?

hi

i have also the same issue. I am wandering how the other websites could add an image for a profile??

even by making avatar, bla bla bla ..... link to this, link to that album, etc. the work become too complicated that a simple social network user leave the site before continuing with my boonex site!!!

one of a big advantage os qualified complex scripts is that they are simple to use. look why facebook, why windows , etc. have succes,

klick klack , and finished.

I am three days busy just to see what item is related to what other issue, but still I think boonex has very advantages , maybe a big problem is a simple movie totoriale, ...

I'm having the same problem after a year of having my sites up I noticed that some members posted avatar pictures and some didn't and I noticed that some made new accounts and posted avatar pictures but I never knew why until one member asked me how to go back and post an avatar picture. I've tried and tried and I can't seem to do it.  How do we post avatars after we already made a profile?
