Also find out if their viewing their emails using plain text or html as in plain text form they won't see a link there.
They would have an option to view their email in html form though.
Find out who they are with and try to make a connection there.
This is a good point, and this may possibly be the issue. I hope it's that simple. Although I don't think most people use plain text email anymore. I am concerned that many who experience this problem may not try to contact me, which means I may be losing members.

Place on info (?) on your joining form stating to make sure they view their emails in HTML format as the link may not be seen in plain text (something like that). That will at least be a starting point to solving the problem.
As an email account provider myself I know a lot of users actually do prefer to view emails in plain text which is why my system warns them when an email has content which can't be viewed in plain text. But not all providers offer that resource so users aren't aware of the issue so end up just thinking there's a problem with the site that's sending the link.
