Email for non-paying members

Does anyone know how to prevent non-paying members from reading or receiving internal emails?

I have un-checked the box next to the permission that says "Get other members emails" but they still seem to get them. It wouldn't be that bad a thing if there was a permission that said "Read other members emails" to check or uncheck  as this would show paying members that they are receiving emails but would have to upgrade to read them.

Has anyone else had this problem and did you find a solution?

You can manage it with membership levels

PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first

I'm pretty sure you need to do this in the membership levels.  The link your talking about has to do with getting the e-mail addresses (off-site e-mail address) that members use to sign up.  Didn't someone awhile back talk about how to permanently eliminate that option from a site to avoid spammers obtaining members e-mail addresses?

And SashaE beats me by 1 minute.

Thank you for your replies. I have gone through all the membership levels and ensured that all the appropriate permissions are checked or unchecked as may be the case.

I have attached the Standard membership level permissions as I currently have them set. I have disabled the permission "Get other members emails" but they still seem to get them. However, I would rather find a way to allow them to receive a notification that they have rec eived an email but have to upgrade to be able to read it.

If you could please best advise me on how to achieve this with the membership levels then I would be most grateful.

There is no option in Membership Level to prevent standard members from reading site mails received by paying members. The membership module needs enhancements.

I also need this option you are talking about. SashaE & Rope Man think that you are talking about the Get member email action button but that is something different from what you want.

I thought that is what they were referring to.

Just to reiterate hd4real's point, the membership module does need some enhancement. Maybe you could group the permissions by module or function to also make it easier to read as it is quite a long list already and finding the right permission to change is not always that clear.

For example, permissions could be grouped by

  • Email
  • Comments
  • Blogs

etc etc, making it easier to find what you need to change, especially after the membership module is further enhanced as the list will only get longer.

Then you could even have radio buttons or check boxes depending on the permissions of course to further refine your permission levels.

For example, within the group "Comments", you may have the permission "Edit Comments" and within that permission there would be a radio button selection of "All", "Own" and "None".

Furthermore, this much needed enhancement would make it much easier for us to allocate permissions to say a Moderator group.

Dolphin is a great script but it needs to keep on becoming greater and greater to match the further needs of Unity members and the members of these Unity members' sites.

I don't know if this will do exactly what you want but it is worth a look. Check out Deanos Enhanced Page Block Visibility mod. : http://www.boonex.com/m/Enhanced_Page_Block_Visibility

There are none so blind as those that will not see.

Thanks for pointing that out Stuart038. I will check it out.

How does Deano's Enhanced Page Block compare to Anton's Page Control or whatever it is called?   I like Deano's price better but I tend to think this is the kind of thing that should have been part of the base product.

I couldn't agree more. The fact that you would offer a script such as Dolphin that enables different levels of membership, combined with a payment option that does not allow you to control who gets emails from other members, who can actually read them once received and so on is a massive failure in the core design of the script itself.
