English language not properly installed?

Hello everyone,

I freshly installed Dolphin 2.0 on my own hosting (site can be found here). As can be seen on the site and in the screenshot below, somehow the English language isn't properly installed.

english language

Moreover, the language 'English' does not appear in the Language Settings menu on the Administrator Dashboard. Can someone help me with this?

Kind regards.

Was this a manual install, or via an auto-installer like Softaculous?

Hi Nathan,

This was a manual installation through ftp.

[edit] ^i forgot the typo, it ofcourse was Dolphin Pro 7.2.0.

Check to make sure the language files are on the server.

I thought as much, geek_girl. Where should these be located and how do I obtain them?

There should be a /langs directory under the root of your site with the language files in it, for English it is lang-eng.php

Yes I tried that; copied lang-en.php from the installation zip to the /langs dir in root, but it didn't help a bit. I tried importing lang-en.php via the Language Settings page and this time English actually does show up as a language, but the problems still occur.

Attached a printscreen of the Modules tab on the Admin Dashboard; same problem.

Was this a manual install of Dolphin or an autoinstaller install of Dolphin?

I must have miss that.  I am guessing this is a permission problem on the directories and files, it is not allowing the language file to be compiled.  Check permissions on the files and directories.

Here is the install guide where you can see what the permissions are; try setting /langs to 777 and see if you can compile the language.

Alas, that didn't work. So I read a (possible) solution for a similar case in this thread (recompiling the Modules' language), but that results in a db query error (also, see attached screenhot):

INSERT INTO `sys_localization_keys`(`IDCategory`, `Key`) VALUES('58', '_sys_module_avatar')

Mysql error:

Duplicate entry '_sys_module_avatar' for key 'Key' (the entry changes per module, of course; this is for the Avatar module)

Found error in the file '/(...)/httpdocs/inc/classes/BxDolInstaller.php' at line 706.

Called 'db_res' function with erroneous argument #0.

Is this db query error the cause, or is this a mere side effect? I'm not that great in database stuff, unfortunately..

Thanks in advance!

No, that is probably because installation of the language keys had already been attempted, thus creating the duplicate entry error.

If this is a freshly installed no content no member installation of Dolphin 7.2; I recommend we start over.  Make sure all the permissions are correct and let's see what happens.  Also, give us the details of your server setup as that might offer a clue.

Hi there,

I'm also having the same problem on a fresh install of 7.2. Has anyone worked this one out yet?

Hi there,

I'm also having the same problem on a fresh install of 7.2. Has anyone worked this one out yet?

Further to this I'll fill in a few details:

• Fresh install of 7.2 on MAMP (for development)

• All permissions set up according to the installation manual

• lang-en.php is being read by the system (if you remove the file the system errors)

• lang-en.php does not appear in languages within the administration/settings panel

• modules install ok with no errors. Languages say they install ok but don't

• If I manually modify the lang-en.php file with the modules en.php information, all works well.

Any ideas? or has everyone gone home for Xmas ;)

Why not try 7.2.1 ?

I started with 7.2.1 and had no issues with installation or language files.
