Errors on join page wont show!!

Hey all :)

I have a qestion about the join page, if a guest wants to join and fills out there details on the join form then clicks submit (join now) at the bottom of the screen, and the user has missed some required details or made a mistake on one  the fields then all that happens is that a red ! mark comes up and pretty much says error and wont let that person join until the missing fields are filled in, but is there a way it can pop up saying what the problem is, and what details need changing/filling in ? as the member will have no idea of the problem and just give up..
