Files Viewer

Am I missing something there is no file viewer you HAVE TO DOWNLOAD to read?

Ok, not meaning to sound like an idiot or anything but how are you going to create a viewer that will display any file? doc files, wav files, png files, exe files, I would LOVE to see the enormity of THAT particular application!

Document viewers and multimedia players are actually quite easy to do, so I don't see where you're coming off on. Of course, the more restricted and impossible-to-read-online formats are understandable.

Also, PDF files can just use the necessary plugins as well.

You guys me laugh so much......All I can say is this is the first site I have ever seen that doesn't have a document viewer kind of silly.  PDF would be the best way to go and this should not be that difficult but completely necessary.  I mean who wants to download something that have not seen?  Really......If someone uploads a .doc they do so t the own peril if someone doesn't have word they are out and so n and so on........Any work a rounds anyone?

 Ok then. What you are saying is a file viewer (which is the terminology used, not document viewer) shouldn;t actually work on ALL files, only PDF and .DOC?

I am sorry let me be more to the point.  There is an aspect to this site Dolphin 7 which allows you to upload files to it.  There is a module and an admin section for this part called files.  If i upload a PDF to that part of the system like here:

toward the bottom you will see the files there is no way to view them without downloading them.

The first person to see them sent back an e-mail why can't I see the files without downloading them?

most every place I have been to has some kind of reader teaser or some type of viewer so you can see what you are about to download........if you even want to......

In order to open a pdf file in a reader, you are going to have to download it anyway. So what's the difference?

Ok to me a file is a document which should shed some light on this.......Ok I think i see where to confusion started THIS is all about the files module and the ability to read those files that are uploaded.

I think the best way is to upload PDFS I will stand by my other statements about docs and any other type files.......

Ok, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a new question. I understand your file dilemma, I was just being an ass.

Here's my question. How come clicking that video (which is really good btw!) does not take me to Youtube and how come I cannot expand that video to full view? Also, how come when I copy the URL in that video, I cannot use it to embed the video in my site? Is there some secret stuff about Orca that I don't know about?

This is just one example of a teaser even a picture to tease the person into the download.  To just have a blind download is just silly.........

I fully understand what you are saying and that is a very cool application. In the greater scheme of things though, I personally don't think a feature like that should be a standard feature in Dolphin. It would, however, be a great addition as a mod. Maybe you should post this idea in the Market and see if you can get someone to build it for you?
