Fix to GPS Routes from scriptologist

The GPS Routes module (by scriptologist) has a feature to upload a GPX file (i.e. GPS information in XML style format) to the website and have it properly displayed, with all route information, on a Google map.  I paid scriptologist to add this feature plus allowed him to resell it on the market with 'no strings attached'.  It took a while but finally Mark informed me he had finished the upgrade.  When I downloaded and installed the module the new GPX feature did not work.  I informed scriptologist of the problem and waited... and waited.  He finally looked into the problem... eventually he informed me that "google maps api is the problem".  Apparently the Google Maps API has changed... possibly something to do with a new 'key' version that completely replaces the old one.  Mark (scriptologist) informed me he has tried to fix the problem that "this is hard".  

Is there anyone in the BoonEx community with experience working with the Google Map API that can offer some assistance.  This problem has dragged on for weeks and it appears scriptologist is unable to solve it. 

When people can't get a module's developer to fix a bug... what can be done?  I know there is the BoonEx Dispute process and am considering it since scriptologist has ignored my request for a refund if he can't fix the bug.  (And I do sincerely believe a full refund is appropriate if it cannot be fixed... since I could not install the module and use it for *any* length of time.)

Have people successfully posted "job" requests for Dolphin module bug-fixes on places like freelancer,  scriptlance and oDesk?  Though I really don't want to pay additional funds to get this working... I am considering posting it to see if it can be done for a very modest fee.

UPDATE:

I have someone in the BoonEx community helping me... he solved the 'minor' bug of why the Site Stats info was not being calculated correctly (before being displayed).  It required cleaning up some messy code.  

I'll post another update when the 'major' bug is solved.  Currently waiting for scriptologist to reply with help explaining why the module works on his demo site while the installation ZIP file does *not* work on either SSL or non-SSL D7.0.9 test sites.  It appears some critical code and/or instructions are missing from the setup files.    

My prediction turned out to be accurate, scriptologist (Mark) left out a critical JQuery file from the download Install ZIP file.  That it took two weeks to figure that out is a ridiculous amount of time... especially when I mentioned early on that something must be missing from my 'broken' installed module that's in his working demo module.  

And there are other minor issues with this module that I'm going to have to hire someone to fix... 

The GPS Routes module can make items Featured but will *only* list Recently Added items on the homepage.  The is *no* admin setting to determine how many Recently Added items will be displayed on the homepage.  Since scriptologist (Mark) does not appear to be interested in adding an admin setting, I asked if he would inform me how to hardcode (db setting?) the number of items to display on the homepage.   Four days ago he responded "i think it's a dolphin number from the settings menu... i'll give you an update".  Two days ago I asked about getting the "update"... no response.   

Does anyone know if I can make a change in the database to control the number of Recently Added items... for a particular module?  

I really appreciate all the outside help I've been getting to resolve issues with this module.  It's unfortunate (especially for my budget) but I have decided to hire another BoonEx Dolphin module developer to review Mark's code and add a few basic features missing from the GPS Routes module.  Plus he'll add the code-fix (that I sent to Mark and he didn't add) to correct the calculated number of routes in the Site Stats block.

I've been asked privately about this module and, in case anyone is interested, overall the core features of the module, i.e. adding & displaying GPS routes, appear to work very well and I'm looking forward to making good use of them once several smaller basic features are fixed or added.  

Also, I've been trading emails with someone that's been developing their own custom "Routes" module... same concept but with a different layout and more advanced features.  Originally it was to be just for their website but they may make it publicly available.  It's expected to be finished by the end of May.  PM me for details.
