Im having a problem on my site
www.ziiwi.com, I created two accounts and sent a friend request from
one to the other and it doesn't seem to work, the other user doesn't
see the friend request and there is no option to accept it, kind of
like it was never sent... so im wondering what might be wrong.
any help ?
thanks

same here - I just spent a while describing the problem - and got logged out before i posted it. so Im glad you mentioned it.
i have checked with two known friends - neither shows any, but if they try to befriend the other they get a "you are already friends with..." message.
i'm stumped viewfriends.php doesnt seem to work at all.

hmm.. works fine on my site |
works fine on both my sites two. Never had a problem with this |
I have looked in to this a bit further. It seems that a member can click on befriend to someone else, but a friend link only shows up if that second user clicks a reciprocal befriend link - ie befriends them back.
There currently doesnt appear to be any notification to a member that someone has invited them to become friends - so unless they are incredibly intuitive the two way 'friend' thing never becomes active.
Is this right? should there be some sort of status message to the intended friend, saying something like "member x has asked to be your friend"? Or should I build in a message saying something like "now message the member to let them know you want to become friends? |
Thats just normal i think, gives the member who is on the other end of the friendship request a chance to deny the request. On both my site's, when a member logs in, the Friends request are there on the accounts page for them to accept or deny under the contact bit. (messages, greetings friends, It seems very straight forward to me. It's up to the member really to make sure they log in regulary to check for any friend request. Which in the end, is what you want really. |

Thanks Tyke. I guess i was just expecting something a bit less low-key, like the option to generate an e-mail - or at least a message, if someone made a friend request.
Perhaps I will just make the contacts block on my accounts page a bit more prominent, through css.
