Getting RMS to work on my server

The documentation on how to set up RMS (http://www.boonex.com/trac/ray/wiki/RayServerInstall) is outdated: there's a link in the manual to download the software, but that link now redirects to the Dolphin download. So I'm meant to understand that RMS is bundled with the latest version of Dolphin. Yet, I have Dolphin 7 installed and still I can't find any of the configuration scripts referenced in the documentation. So how am I supposed to configure RMS? I try configuring it in Admin, I enter my domain's IP address and I leave the ports as their default values. I check "Use RMS". And yet, when I save my settings, it informs me it can't connect to RMS. So maybe those ports aren't open. How do I correct that? (I'm not used to UNIX/Linux, so bear with me.) And is there anything else I need to configure to get RMS working? I understand it relies on Java. So how does it know what my Java path is? Where do I configure that?

I do not believe RMS comes bundled with D7. It is a separate download and is specific to the type server you are going to install it on.

ffmpeg now comes bundled with D7, that might be where you are making the mistake. You need to have a dedicated or VPS server setup to install the RMS as it needs to be done in the root of the server. There's a ton of info here if you do a search on the subject..

I did do a search of the subject, and I got documentation that doesn't even have the right link to download it.

So I found a link to download RMS 3.5 (http://get.boonex.com/Ray-v.3.5-Suite-FREE). I extracted the files on my server, and now I'm running into the same problem: the installation documentation mentions files that don't exist (e.g., access.dat). Do I have the wrong version?

Just go to the main dolphin download page.

http://www.boonex.com/dolphin/download/

RMS is Called Media Server on the download page. There are 2 versions. One for windows and one for linux. Make sure you get the correct one.

But as SkyForum said. You must be hosted on a VPS or Dedicated server to install this. You CANNOT install this on shared hosting.

Thats is a out dated version. Dump it, it's not for Dolphin 7.

The server I'm using has multiple websites hosted on it, but they're all managed by the company I work for. I have remote shell access to everything on the server, including server-wide configuration files and software. Is that considered "shared hosting" (i.e., is it in the same category as traditional hosting where you share server space with other websites that belong to other people)?

LOL, no. That's called having your very own server. What OS does it have?

The server uses RedHat Linux.
