I put a post on the D7 Bx stage why there is no "Fans only" selection on the View Group field listing for
Group privacy settings and AlexT answered my question back as "Nonsense". Didn't understand why it
was nonsense until I searched the Forums and found the another same post with AlexT answers that if
target people (such as member or friends) can not Viewing group first then no one could become a group
member (group fan) because "Join" link is inside group page and this person can view all the contents of
the group, such as photos and videos.
My post and another one raised the same issue that we want only the joined group member (fans) to view
the contests of the group. But AlexT means that I want to view the group contents before I join the group
which break the group privacy. This raises a Chicken or Egg, who is first issue. Sadly, D7 final is just functioning
as AlexT said. I'm not using D6.x long before starting D7. Ax and Bx, but I remembered that there is a "Join"
link outside the group to let people to join the group and then to view the group contents.
Generally speaking, few group creator will allow all the people group, such as members or even his/her friends to
view all the group contents before he or she become a group fan. Therefore, I suggestion either put a "join" link
outside group page or make current "View Group" to "Preview Group" in group privacy setting page and disable
all the buttons except "Join" one to allow target people group to preview the group page and join the group. This
will keep the group privacy. If any one want create a group for all the member of the site, then just one click(Join)
more.
D7 is great, but there are still a lot room to improve. As a social community software, it is necessary to strength
the group functioning, such as photo and video albums. So the group can put photo and video into different catalog
based on some events, such as date or subjects. Meanwhile, I've found some minor issues need to improve on D7
group.
1. Video player height setting not apply to group video player;
2. There is no arrow on the photo album for next or previous;
The following are common, not limit to group only.
1. Possible to add slide show(auto show) for photo, even embedded music while auto show the photo;
I would like to do some modification for group view as above to keep group privacy, any one know which
source code file I should take a look for.
