Have you tried "Inviter for Dolphin 7"?

I'm tempted by what appears to be an all-encompassing solution for inviting contacts from outside email account and also some social networking sites. My only reservation is the demand on my server which could potentially be large if everyone uses this regularly sending out hundreds of emails each time. I believe there are configurations enabling you to delay sending etc to relieve the load.

Anyway, has anyone had any experience of it?

I have it. I think your worries are a little over the top. How often do your members use the feature? Even then, only the first time is it a little resourcer, after that, usually only a few as they gainn new friends.

Unless you have a bazillion members, I wouldn't worry about it...

Each member will burn far more resources just signing up for subscriptions than they will with that mod....

I installed the Inviter a few days ago and it works well - coupled with a Cron job and its own pre-defined limits per user the load is actually fine.
