Hi to all,
I had to upload a video that I greated to my host server. For some reason or another I was not able to upload directly to my website so I tried uploading to my host. Now is there a way in which I can move or copy the video file to my website?
Thanks
|
It could be any number of reasons. Can you post a screenshot of Administration > Tools > Host Tools > Params? I also recommend you check your permissions. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Hi Nathan,
Is this what you wanted to see? I'm not much of a pro at this. I just learn as I go.
As far as permissions, what is it that I need to check? I never had problems in uploading videos before. I can still upload music files.

You will need to upload the video from your website. You cannot copy a video from another directory into your website and expect it to be viewable.
What we need to know is, what error are you receiving when you try to upload a video from within your website.
Nothing to see here |
Hi,
Okay, here's an update. I was finally able to upload one video that took a bit of time to process. I have two other videos that have been process since yesterday. Some times the videos would fail, and then I would start over again.
I have total of just 3 videos that I would like to post on my website. It has taken so long just trying to process these videos. I have been in contact with my hosting provider and seem to be getting no where with them as far as helping me with these problems.
As of right now, this is the second or third time that I have 2 videos being processed. One is going on 15 hours and the other 13. I just can't understand why so long? It's not even a guaranty that they will process. Like I mention, they have failed before.
Zarcon, as far as errors, the videos, either are taken way to long now to process or like I mention above, they fail to process.
|
the videos that are not processing:
1. what size are they?
2. what is the file extension
3. which uploader are you using (flash or regular)?
also are you on shared hosting or VPS | Dedicated?
seems to be an issue with the files that you are trying to upload since you were able to upload one file.
so it seems that your cron job and ffmpeg are working.
now it comes down to the exact files you are dealing with.

my 2 cents...
my test server will process videos up to 700mbs with out problems, it does take up to 45-60 minutes.
If I try to upload more than one at a time they usually fail. Looking in the flash apps setting for videos I see a setting on how many videos to process at once. No matter this setting ffmpeg will try to process them all, when that happens some process, some fail.
Why is there a setting for ffmpeg stating how many videos to process at once.
I have test uploaded 20 videos in a row and the server slowly starts processing all of them, using all resources.
I know my box is not a commercial server but it does perfect otherwise, even the vidoe commenting system works fine.
How can I keep my server from processing more than 2 media files at once?

Hi,
DosDawg -
1. what size are they? - The largest file size that I have is 60 MB, the video that was finally upload was 52.7 mb
2. what is the file extension - MP4 Video
3. which uploader are you using (flash or regular)? I have tried both
also are you on shared hosting or VPS | Dedicated? I think it is a share, The provider is Arvixe
|
For your requirement, I recommend you to go for VPS or Dedicated.
Also, your host can resolve this easily for you.
Make sure you update your php.ini to higher upload size.

45-60 minutes is a tremendous amount of time. i suppose that you are able to do that because its on localhost. no way would i percieve a hosting company allowing a process to run for that period of time using up system resources.
even if this were a dedicated machine, i cant see how this could be conducive to a productive environment.
based on your settings max_execution_time 600, you are aware that is 600 seconds, or 10 minutes, so it will time out after ten minutes on executing a script.
also, just so you know there is a parameter missing from this check, and that is the max_input_time setting
max_execution_time was implemented to protect a server from kernel panic on a badly written script.
Resource: php.net
max_execution_time integer
This sets the maximum time in seconds a script is allowed to run before it is terminated by the parser. This helps prevent poorly written scripts from tying up the server. The default setting is 30. When running PHP from the command line the default setting is 0.
The maximum execution time is not affected by system calls, stream operations etc. Please see the set_time_limit() function for more details.
You can not change this setting with ini_set() when running in safe mode. The only workaround is to turn off safe mode or by changing the time limit in the php.ini.
Your web server can have other timeout configurations that may also interrupt PHP execution. Apache has a Timeout directive and IIS has a CGI timeout function. Both default to 300 seconds. See your web server documentation for specific details.
in conjunction with max_execution_time
there are other critical settings:
Resource: php.net
max_input_time integer
This sets the maximum time in seconds a script is allowed to parse input data, like POST and GET. It is measured from the moment of receiving all data on the server to the start of script execution.
so where you can see that your max time is 10 minutes on max_execution on any given script, and if you dont have max_input time directive stated, then it could be running on default.

yeah, i would never allow a script to run for 3000 seconds which converts to 50 minutes.

Running the script for so long time is no good. You can reduce the run time by allocating more memory for it. ---- |
The first thing I would suggest is bumping your maximum execution time up from 600. I currently have mine at 1600. When trying to upload/convert videos files of that size, you are going to need to allow time for processing.
If possible, bump the memory as well.

keep in mind some servers are going to kill off after running any one script for an extended period of time.

memory is good, quad-cores are good, you need a server that will run this beast that is a proven fact.
you wouldnt necessarily take your childs tricycle to the top fuel drag race and expect to win. sure you might finish, but you could never anticipate winning

Thanks for the information, still have not answered the question about what the setting in the flash apps is for.
"Maximum number of processing files"
I made mistake on time.. for a 700mb video it takes 18-20 minutes to process.
Should reduce the script time to 1600 or less?

The execution time should be more than 20 minutes in this case. ---- |
Hi to all,
I now have all the videos uploaded. I downsize the video files and for some reason they were able to upload. I had to make them a 5 part series. It's not what I really wanted but it will due for now.
A special thank you to all for the input. I learn much from here. This is a great place for info when needed.
Have a safe and great week!

did you even try to compress the video down first before you even uploaded it to say 320 by 240 because there is no reason to even upload a video say 1920 by 1080 (hd) because dolphin will never play it in that way... https://dolphin-techs.com - Skype: Dolphin Techs |
