Hide Birthday Issue................

I don't need to go into why a birthday is important to have for social media site.  However,  I am getting a great deal of flack about identity theft possiblities.  Yes they can just use the wrong birthday or wrong year but then our records would not be right for demographics and breakdowns of who is on the site.

I know, I am not alone here but could it just be possible on the join page to add a button that say's hide age on site or hide birthday so the end user is making the decision and not putting all the weight of the, "Birthdate" on me? Seems logical to me and woud allow for us to still have a breakdown of who is who?  and not have to deal with this issue!

end user error on this one. you can remove that from being viewable by your members.

you can set that field on the join form and then viewable only to the admin. the DOB is required to join the site, though its not required to display that data.

I think it would be easier to just hide the field from displaying for anyone who isn't an administrator.

Edit: Hello.

I think that is a great idea..................the only problem is the end user will not know it is not visible......could put it in the little info thing......I thought it had to be visible.....

Sure. You can edit the field description and include a note saying this information is kept private. It only has to be visible when joining or editing a profile.

there are several profile fields, default and the ones you add later on. the information displayed is controlled by the administrator of the site. DOB real name and several other fields do not have to be displayed.

After a little more digging I was able to find an admin section to the 'Mega Profile"  In that admin section it deals with this issue quite well and has about 3 options dealing with birth-date................You would have thought I asked them for their first born..........Laughing Thanks for the heads up...........
